I don't think it's up to us, or Canada, to pay any more. He didn't want the pains and responsibilities of royalty; ergo he loses the privileges once he ceases to fulfil royal duties and engagements. If his family want to help out, that's up to them. As an irascible teaching colleague was often heard to bellow, "Rights DEMAND responsibilities, lad!".
Most celebrities, especially in the US, pay for their own security. Harry and Meghan should do the same. Prince Andrew pays for his daughters. If Harry can afford an entire first class train carriage, unless it was a freebie, he should pay for protection. Just a point who is footing the bill for the mansion on Vancouver Island or is that a freebie?
