Many of the virus deaths are of people younger than 70. Seems obvious, but it’s not just us over-70s who are at risk.

It’s ALL of us!

True, Allen, but it is still mainly those with already existing underlying illnesses.
over-70s are at more risk, and over-80s even more so; look at the graphic a quarter of the way down this page

The reasons (underlying illnesses etc) aren't really relevant: if you want to protect the people most at risk, you start with the oldest and work your way down as resources permit.
My daughter told me that the stats are showing more men than women, also.

Not sure if that’s reflected in the breakdown of deaths by ages. But it does add fuel to the “I’ll be alright, it doesn’t apply to me” way of ‘thinking’.
A cause of COVID-19 is pneumonia. Pneumonia can affect people of any age, but it's more common, and can be more serious, in certain groups of people, such as the very young or the elderly.

Most old people are staying in their homes and following advice. The young thing they're invisible so are continuing to do as they wish or putting themselves at risk to help the more vulnerable.

This may be why the stats are indicating there are more deaths of people younger than 70, but that's not to say i've seen the stats. I haven't.
I've seen that reported in a few places pasta, with figures attached so I'm pretty sure it's true.
What I have noticed in the stats is the percentage difference of the deaths in each region. Midlands is bad with a high percentage of deaths to the number of patients with the virus. B&H is not too good either.
I think that's the wrong way round, TD, you get Covid first then it might develop into pneumonia.
The people most at risk are the over 70's who have breathing problems eg asthma or COPD.
TD, the pneumonia is caused by the virus, not the other way around.
Hope you're OK Danny and have any support you need. I have been thinking about you x

Yes, danny, I know (I am one!)

But my point is that we are ALL at risk, and should act responsibly.
Has any person, young or old, who does not have underlying health conditions died in this country? All the ones I've read about have.
Margo, I am OK thanks, and have plenty of support from family and neighbours. You OK ?
//The young thing they're invisible//

Doubt that, TD. I'll ask if I see one.
That's good Danny- we're fine thanks keeping ourselves to ourselves. Our son is living with us so we have help at hand. He is a teacher so is in school at the moment.
I don't know, Margaretom but I am wondering now if, when a death is announced, it is done so without the words....underlying condition. Maybe the young and healthy are seeing this as a sort of get out of jail free card.
This thought came to me today when I read about the three teens who assaulted an elderly couple by coughing into their faces.
"I think that's the wrong way round, TD, you get Covid first then it might develop into pneumonia."

You are right, that my my misphrasing.

Re coronavirus vs pneumonia, isn't there a chatterbank post somewhere asking for statements to have a reputable verifying link ?
Ah, I see :-)
