Is it time now to impose heavy fines rather then the police “ issued a stern warning”

For goodness sake, just obey the rules and stop making excuses for idiots who don't. In France you're only allowed to walk/exercise within 2 km of your house so let's stop the fools who now drive in order to walk by putting in more restrictive measures and issuing more and heavier fines.

What’s also idiotic are the officials who’ve been going round telling shops what they can and can’t sell: you do wonder if there is a certain breed of jobsworth for whom situations like this were tailormade.

It is a big Morrisons. If customers have to be 2 metres apart, then the total lengths of the aisles has to be 200metres to allow 100 people in. The Morrisons I use is probably 5 times that distance.
Not everyone will be queuing at the same time ...

I haven't seen that, Ich.
Sorry I should have done a link

It is big then because they will have equated floor size ,checkout spacing etc. to arrive at an optimum number of customers at any one time.
Social distancing is just a guide and does not guarantee that you will not contract coronavirus.
If you are in a store with 100 strangers (and probably 100 additional staff), then you are just as daft as the 25 friends doing Karaoke. You may feel smug that you have complied with the rules, but perhaps the deadly virus doesn’t know the rules?
Thanks Ich. As if there's not enough to worry about! Potty!

it will be interesting to see ultimately who wins this one - the trade association, or the police.

That's ridiculous, Gromit. Who's getting your shopping for you?

I don't know what to say.

Gromit there is no guarantee anywhere but what there is, there’s rules set for people of intelligence to follow which are being flouted daily

Just looked up the science.

An MIT study concluded that 2 metres is very inadequate, and should be nearer 8 metres.

Stupid idiots, what better way to spread the virus.

They socialise then go and possibly pass something on to innocent people.
Picking up on Gromit's and Barmaid's points, I posted a Q on Saturday about this.

I found it astonishing that on my usual Saturday morning dog walk, which is about 6 miles, five of which is on a circuitous route through a large wood, I usually encounter, say, a dozen other people, and yet this Saturday morning, the place was absolutely teeming with people. I don't want to exaggerate, but like Gromit, I reckon I passed 100 people.

So, when there's no restrictions the place is virtually empty, with restrictions there were absolutely loads of people.
does the government think that the morons ignoring the advice will take notice of a letter that's costing five million pounds to send out?

For things like this, yes.
I'm really annoyed. I'm in the at risk group. My nephew has gone out (he lives here) I don't think he knows that his phone is checking in to where he is so his sister is following him.

Her BF is staying here. My OH gave him 2 options. Go home, grab some clothes and stay here, or go home and don't come back till this is over.

With most social activities closed down and people only allowed to shop or exercise, then it stands to reason everyone will gravitate to doing those two things.
So supermarkets are going to be busier (the opposite of what we need) and popular walks will be more popular.
