Tigers in a New York zoo have the coronavirus. What next? The fish in the sea? The birds in the air?

Few things have brought tears to my eyes, but this news has. What are tigers DOING locked up in New York?

Do humans really deserve to survive? And are we dragging the animals down with us?

Yes, a worrying development especially if it’s found in the food chain.
That is worrying, but we did get it from animals in the first place? It has to be capable of being passed between different species. Doesn't it?
Well it came from animals so ...
Viruses can’t be passed in the food chain surely? Unless we’re eating live tigers.

Other than by someone infected handling a bag of pasta ..

in common with most large zoos, Bronx Zoo is but the public window on the work of the Wildlife Conservation Society, who have owned the park since 1899. the primary reason for existence is the conservation and scientific work undertaken.

I was trying to look that up just now, ich, but Google didn't understand my question.
Viruses are living things and depend on other living things to propagate (unlike say bacteria)so it’s unlikely they could get into a food chain as such
This article says not, Ich. I Should maybe have researched a bit before commenting.

Viruses are not living. They can't reproduce, but they do use other cells.
That's pretty much what I found, zacs, but couldn't find confirmation on whether you could get a virus just from the food itself. It just seems unlikely.
It was that *** Carol Baskins fault!

It's a better option than having them roam free.
Are you quite well? You seem overwrought.
Sorry that was the wrong link

Thanks, that seems to make sense.
It depends what you mean by “living”

That link explains about a specific way of infecting food (which I didn’t know about and wish I’d not read before having breakfast :-) )
Lol Zacs.

Cheers :-)
Living, alive. Bacteria are, but viruses aren't. How did the first person get this, then, if it didn't come from bats, but lack of hygiene?

I’ve never been able to work out whether you’re an amiable idiot or a nasty bit of work.

Do enlighten.
