Once again, the downside of social media rears its ugly head.

Years ago, any one of these idiots would have made that remark in the pub to a table or bar of half a dozen people, who would probably have ignored them for being an idiot, and the rest of the population would know nothing about their pointless offering.

But the internet allows such fools the giddy experience of sharing their useless views with the entire world at the click of a button, and they get carried away with the redundant thought that their opinion actually matters, simply because it's out there, and a portion of the world will react.

It's virtual hot air - some pub bore holding court and being laughed at, and, as is appropriate, largely ignored.

We should all adopt that attitude.

Would you give the pub cretin a white board and a marker, and a corner to stand and write his nonsense in?

No - so don't let's do it in cyberspace - the inspiration, and the point, and the actual result are all the same - meaningless.

Whilst you're correct, I think we need to get things into perspective.

There have been thousands upon thousands of messages of support all over the country, all over the world.

However, for some reason, they will be ignored, and the spotlight will be shone on the trolls.

Unfortunately, we're living in a time when people cannot be happy unless they are (on some level) disgusted about something.

There were always going to be morons who celebrate the PM's illness, and who would cheer and party if he went on to die. Ignore them. There's no other course of action. People are, in this case, free to be crass and tasteless. I hope that they remember that no political debate is ever won by your opponent's death.
