Surely this is not the time to summon ministers to appear before YC's committee of nobodies when the government is busy dealing with the crisis. There is a daily press conference and everything they need to know is in the meeja x N. So what's she playing at?

Shouldnt Yvette and her husband not be more concerned with all the Syrian refugees they took into their homes at the height of the refugee crisis. Are the refugees still living in the Balls-Cooper mansion?
she is doing what she paid to do - be a politician

and I have to say whenever anyone has said 'I am too busy to tell you what is going on with you' it has turned out that he isnt too busy - he has been busy sharting everyone besides himself

but that was then
Balls-Cooper eh? Amazing what's stored in barrels.
By the way,Bob Geldof,Nicola Sturgeon,Lily Allen to name a few all promised to take in Syrian refugees. How many did each take in and how many are still with them?
Always rated Yvette Cooper as a very good politician , very nice Lady.
12.07 That was a" Priti Nasty " reply, Douglas.
I can't think of any reason why PP, ( not you Peter,) would not appear before the HAC, after all, the system of committees is an integral part of government, and scrutiny is an important part of democracy.
PP, (still not you Peter,) has it as part of her remit to conform to parliamentary procedure, and whatever else she is doing, it is of secondary importance to this.
What do you think of that PP? (No not you Priti.)
Absolutely Theland
It is very odd that she hasn't appeared at any of the daily briefings.
All the other major (and one or two minor) member of the cabinet have done so.
And to appear before the committee at the current time, she wouldn't even have to leave her house if she was at home. She certainly wouldn't have to leave her office.
Still no answer to my question at 12.26!

who is your question addressed to?
Anyone is free to answer,Toro, but perhaps our left-wing members or some of the Scottish nationalists will refresh my memory.
Much of the work of the House of Commons and the House of Lords takes place in committees, made up of around 10 to 50 MPs or Lords. These committees examine issues in detail, from government policy and proposed new laws, to wider topics like the economy.

The Home Affairs Committee consists of 11 Members of Parliament, drawn from the three largest political parties. The House of Commons appoints the Committee with the task of examining the expenditure, administration, and policy of the Home Office and its associated public bodies.

The Home Affairs Committee is undertaking a short inquiry into the Home Office’s preparations for and response to Covid-19 (Coronavirus).  The Deadline for giving evidence is 21 April 2020.

Ms Patel, as head of the Home Office can be held accountable by any of her fellow MPs but particularly a House Committee. She is showing contempt for parliament and is contemptuous of other Members of Parliament.
Cooper, as head of the Home Affairs Committee is inviting Patel to give evidence of how prepared the Home Office is for coronavirus, and to tell how appropriate she believes the Government have acted. All evidence from whoever wants to contribute has to be submitted by April 21st. Patel is effectively telling the Committee, whose job is to scrutinise her Department, to get stuffed, and she will turn up at a later date after the deadline has closed.
Chairing these committees must be the reward for thievery.
Spicerack
The Home Affairs Committee has 11 members but 6 of those are Conservatives. The Committee elects its own Chairman, but despite the inbuilt Tory majority, they elected (in fact re-elected) Cooper.
I’d pay to watch Cooper v Patel alright :-)
She’ll send one of her hapless minions (long sleeved top and sunglasses obligatory ;-) )
Patel , has a bit of a record for being outspoken and a bit of a bully.
Probably to do with Political Party she is a member of . They are prity good at it.
Are you trying to tell me the Con Party has self serving crooks, gromit.
I know.
Vaz was in charge of the ethics committee.
Some woman with an off-shore fund was in charge of the Tax committee.
Now this lying thief gets one.
Hence my question.
TTT, would this Committee not be the appropriate folk to question Priti Patel about the police's "misunderstanding" of the new Covid-19 legislation?

Perhaps she should have made sure a consistent approach would be taken by each force in the first place?
