Meghan Merkel.
Duchess (sic) of Sussex has lost the first round of her battle with The Mail in the high court.
The first battle.
Will she lose the war in your opinion?

Now she’s told the British tabloids she’ll have nothing to do with them I think the best thing would be for them to ignore her completely. As Oscar Wilde said ‘There is only one thing in life worse than being talked about, and that is not being talked about.’ She’s a B-rated actress whose only real claim to fame is marrying a prince who’s decided to renege on his...

The problem the Sussexes (or is it Sussex') will have forever now is the the Duchess is the new Diana.
Every time the Mail runs a story on her, they get thousands of comments. Each comment will present a page view, and each page view increases the rate that the Mail can charge advertisers.
She (not so much he) is the golden goose. She's going be worth an absolute fortune to the press.

Meghan is not the new Diana. Diana was part of the Establishment, a Lady in her own right, an 'English Rose', innocence personified (yes that's a bit sarcastic but no one is perfect) Meghan is trailer trash, basically, crawled her way up to the heady heights of a TV show in America, her only saving grace Harry, who fell hook line and sinker for the honey trap.
Well, he kind of did Naomi. Her popularity is not coming from your or my generations, but from the ones behind us. She's more Diana circa 1986 than post divorce Di.
Her life and Diana's life do not hold up for comparison in regards to their actions and legacy, but in terms of popularity and specifically press scrutiny and coverage, they are pretty similar.

To newspaper editors, she's the new Diana. When Diana was alive (and after she died), newspapers would see an uptick in sales when they ran a story about her.
When magazines put a picture of Diana on their covers, they would similarly see a spike in sales.
Exactly the same thing is happening today with the Duchess of Sussex. Stories about her in online papers will get thousands of responses, and each response is a page impression, and each page impression generates money.

Strange times....
I think she'll probably lose but I absolutely believe that someone, somewhere ought to bring the tabloid gutter-wallowers to heel.
The fact that they were allowed and supposed to police their own output has always been laughable.
It is shameful that so many publications are able to run such negative stories safe in the knowledge that simply printing her name will see an increase in their sales (= advertising revenue).
