Re: youngmagbog's first paragraph at 1.54pm - I couldn't agree more, and is no less than I've been saying for some time.
People who don't want the lockdown to end are of that opinion because they are personally unaffected - if they were affected they'd also want it to end. They just would.
The economy is more important than old people dying; I know how that sounds, and I don't like saying it, but it's true...and if people are honest with themselves they'd also agree.
For people that remain scared and don't possess the mental fortitude of others, then fine, they can continue to cower behind their sofa, but for those of us who are more robust, we should be allowed to go about our business.

21.23 dd Well I'm old, and I'm not dead, so regarding your point of view, I don't care to much about you either. I've got plenty of income and unaffected by this situation. Enjoying the lack of crime, pollution, drunks and druggies off the street, and its just great not having football rammed down ones neck 7 days a week. :0)

That is rubbish, it might be your own opinion, but is isn't ours, and we stand to lose a fair amount of money. It isn't the opinion of my best friend's daughter who has lost her job, but is more worried about her mum.

I'm sure the (old) retired doctors and nurses that came out of retirement to help save the likes of dd will be over the moon with his/her statement and disregard to older people. The whole world has had the sort of attitude that dd has, lack of respect and all the wrong priorities, the world has bitten back, and its been a long time coming, but it appears some still haven't got the message yet, may be the next bite may change their mind. :0)
I assume this Nobel prize winning scientist is talking a crock of poo. Of course our resident scientists will say so

The UK originally planned for herd immunity withOut a lockdown. Imperial College then predicted 150,000 deaths in the UK which spooked the Government into abandoning that policy. As it is, we have had 35,000 deaths, which will probably double by the end of the year
If lockdown saves 75,000 - 100,000 deaths, it is difficult to argue that the cure wasn’t worth it.
It would be political suicide to let 75,000 people die if it was/is avoidable.

I don't know that it would be political suicide: there have already been nearly 40,000 premature deaths, the government is unfazed, and people on this thread are demanding an end to lockdown regardless of who dies. For some reason, the "anti-British" like myself seem far more concerned than true patriots are at the prospect of mass British deaths.
