Mr RR was listening to the radio about 3 weeks ago, where an economist was suggesting, that to help the economy survive, the government should give every adult £1200 each to buy whatever they want. It must be spent within a certain time limit or you lose it, you absolutely cannot save it.

What would you buy?

I think I’d blow it on a couple of very nice meals out and get a new laptop.

Nice idea, but I doubt it would happen.

Probably on kitchen stuff.
I sincerely hope it doesn't happen.

It’s just a bit of hypothetical fun. I doubt it would happen
I would give it to my local hospice.
Need you ask? I'd join a syndicate and buy shares in a racehorse. Probably wouldn't see much of a return for my investment, but it wouldn't be my money I was using. I would be allowed in the owners enclosure when it raced and, if it managed to win the odd race, I may even get interviewed (me and a bunch of other co-owners) by the delightful Hayley Turner. So, a win-win situation:-))

Very inventive Ken.
It would go on bills I'm sad to say.
Put it towards a newish car, Kenzie is nearly 17 and I could do with a new mutt mobile
Mozz; whenever i'm lucky enough to have a decent return from a bet, I always use a percentage of it to pay a few bills. I am, at present, a few months ahead with my Poll Tax (yes I know, people!), Water Rates and TV Licence. Windfalls ought not to be used entirely to settle debts:-)

I think the idea was to spend it on goods and sevices to keep people in work, and businesses afloat
Nice meals out? How would that work then?
An over bath power shower or some modern art glass

‘Nice meals out? How would that work then‘

Obviously it’s meant for post lockdown.
it was done in Japan...around late 1990's IIRC and they are going to do it again https://www.aljazeera.com/ajimpact/japan-abe-give-blanket-cash-handouts-coronavirus-stimulus-200416081201033.html
Question Author
I presume it must have worked if they are doing it again
Oh, right.
I'd spend it on things I need to buy like groceries and so on....then I 'd keep the money that I would have spent on those things to get a garden sort out and tidy up done. That would be something for me and the employment would help someone else.
You could, of course, wait until the pubs are open. Then, stand everyone's drinks until the well runs dry and be the most popular guy/gal in your local - for a while.
I would spend it on the garden. I'd buy some plants of which the price normally takes my breath away and maybe have a nice pond/water feature. If there was anything left I would buy shoes...
Half a new bathroom probably.
