Thank you ff - interesting. This suggests that some 4500 people under the age of 65 have been recorded as Covid 19 deaths. Had these people lived not in the UK but where the fight against premature death from the disease has been much more successful then the toll might be as little as 180 individuals.

Ignoring the other 33,000 at least who have died, is the loss of 4300+ people of working age a case of Well Done, now let's move on ? Is the effort that achieved even this low grade success not just enough but all that can be justified, so let's now throw fate to the wind and simply see how the disease will wield the scythe ?

ParsleyDumpling. I said on here quite early on that I thought it was inevitable at some point that everyone would catch this thing. I was immediately pounced upon and chastised as being some sort of euthanising Nazi by the self appointed moral guardians of this site, so I know what you mean.

What I would like everyone to do though is just get behind the people that are trying to solve the problem irrespective of politics.

10C; You missed my point entirely. Maybe even deliberately. Of course I know that these old guys and girls were in wheelchairs before the virus hit. My point is that they had survived the war, the one which you commemorate each year in November, yet you appear willing to sacrifice them now. Just so you can have a round or two of golf and wind down in the 19th hole each week.
And I sat with my mother as she died in hospital having signed the DNR form back in March 2012. So don't talk to me about gubbins.

PD, it is the elderly who are most at risk from the virus. Particularly those with underlying medical conditions. Which, let's face it, probably covers a huge percentage of people in that age bracket.

Parsley, in answer to your question; the elderly are more at risk than other age groups. Particularly those with existing underlying medical conditions. Which -let's face it - probably covers a huge percentage of that age group. London and surrounding areas may have peaked/flattened the curve, but one size does not fit all and, as i said earlier, there are areas yet to reach this benchmark. Therefore the easing of lockdown restrictions really ought to be done on a regional basis, as and when those regions meet the criteria. However unfair that may appear.

DD; read my earlier post and the one I've just submitted. I don't want lockdown to continue any longer than is necessary. Shame on you for suggesting I do! But, as I said, one size does not fit all. Phase it in area by area as and when. It's so simple even a painter and decorator might suggest it.

Thanks for clarifying Ken, the over 70's and vulnerable do not have to come out of lockdown, if they prefer (or feel safer) not to. However, I think it should be upto them to choose what they feel is right for them. In theory some people are being told to self isolate indefinitely, I personally do not think that is healthy or the right thing to do. At some point quality of life has to come into the equation.

I was responding to 10CS, Naomi, and his comments on the treatment of elderly people in hospitals. Assuming what he says is true, isn't that another wake-up call? It's been something that's festered for a while, after all.

As to DeskDiary's comments: I don't want the lockdown to continue any longer than is necessary. There's reason to worry about a second peak if the lockdown is relaxed too early. Hopefully the relaxation set to start tomorrow won't prove premature. We will find out some time in the middle/end of June. But if we were wrong to break lockdown so soon then a lot of people will end up dead.
