Incompetence is a Built in feature not a Bug, in Boris Johnsons Government.
Since Boris doesn't cherish much beyond the Idea of Himself as a Figure of Greatness
The safe bet is his plan to merge the Foreign office with the Dept for International Development, belongs to the category of "Gestural Distraction.

Free school meals have been around for decades.
Under emergency lockdown powers, the Government awarded a £234m contract to run a voucher scheme for 1.3m children to Edenred, a French Company.
No cash is involved, just vouchers, so there was never any prospect of them being spent in the bookies or pubs.

The Edenred Contract was another fiasco and much criticised by the people dependent on the vouchers. The DofE were probably keen for the contract not to be renewed (it was due to end in July), but now a meddling footballer has scuppered that. And ABers will be pleased that more taxpayers money will be flowing to France.

We all keep talking about different policies.
But people who need the state to feed their children during holidays should shut up and be grateful.
did i not read children in britain were obese, what is child benefit for, or does it have a new title, perhaps stop child benefit and replace with vouchers.
fender62

The voucher scheme was an emergency measure brought in in March when the schools shut because of corona.
That meant children who were entitled to free school dinners were not getting them, so £15 vouchers were introduced. Food can be purchased with the vouchers in shops as well.
The vast majority of children getting free school dinners have working parents.
^And that's a flipping disgrace.
// how is "govt are incompetent" news?//

The Circumlocution Office was (as everybody knows without being told) the most important Department under Government. No public business of any kind could possibly be done at any time without the acquiescence of the Circumlocution Office. Dickens - Liddle Dorrit 1855-57
Fender62,

// Did I not read children in britain were obese [?]

No you didn’t.
20% of uk children are obese, 80% are not.
20% of uk children are obese, 80% are not// so the 20% do not need vouchers, but exercise.
the point of the critics
is when it has been done before
it has led to less focussed aid
and not more
Gromit //20% of uk children are obese, 80% are not.//
So it is quite correct to say that " children in Britain are obese.Nobody would read that as all children.
// And that's a flipping disgrace. //

9 million people work part time. The majority of supermarket workers will be doing 16 hours/week.
2 million people are on minimum wage and 1 million have zero hours contracts.

We may have near full employment, but millions are not earning a living wage, so depend on benefits.
dannyk13

As 80% of children are not obese, it is misleading to say they are.
Fender62,
// 20% of uk children are obese, 80% are not// so the 20% do not need vouchers, but exercise. //

Wrong.
There are 11,500,000 children in the UK, but only 1,300,000 are eligible for free meals. Here isn’t any way you can say the 20% obese ones are eligible for free meal vouchers. While obesity is more common in affluent people, it can also be the result of poor diet in poorer people.
Obese children should take more exercise. But they shouldn’t eat no meals they should eat healthier meals. When children were being fed at school, they ere getting healthy food. For the limited period of the voucher scheme, the parents control what the child is fed, so they might not be getting healthy food. The result will be more obesity which is why the voucher scheme needs scrapping asap when the present corona crisis is over.
// While obesity is more common in affluent people, //

Most unlikely, Mr Gromit.
i guess it's to many ready meals ie nuke food, parents lack cooking skills or to lazy and thats a shame, do they not teach home economics if thats the correct word for it anymore.
