Sunak’s £30 Billion Furlough Giveaway Abused By Uk Businesses
6 million people continued to work while on the Government’s furlough scheme. That is a massive amount of fraud, and the Government apparently splashed out tax payers money with very little (or any no) checks.

But you see, ynnafymmi, or rather you don't see (or won't see), that Corbyloon and the likes of me are putting forward this argument: There are many thieves in this country. All of them deserve to be caught, and punished. Yet you and your ilk single out some dumb Pakistani woman who has quite wrongly done the taxpayer out of a lot of money. Why do you single her out?...

Ymb,
Two thirds of those on the £30billion scheme should not have been paid a penny, but were.
Such a weak system should not have been used in the first place, and is a sign of the Chancellors incompetence.
A lot of taxpayers money wasted. When companies are caught there should be hefty fines (but there won’t be).

So what system would you have put in place that could have been setup immediately and not cut anyone out? As I am sure you are aware once you stsrt putting checks in place delays occurr, just look at the UC problems.
I agree it needs looking at, I said that in my first post, but I am wary of a report that takes 9,000 and then extrapolates out like that. More detail on the questions asked in the survey is needed and certainly HMRC should dig in - which they are.
The wheels at HMRC do turn slowly but they do get there. I am sure that even if there are no fines being bought to the attention of HMRC will bring annual pain for them for every return they make. Without a doubt they will be flagged up. That in itself is probably better than any fine.
I see, despite repeated asking, you dont have any other scheme to suggest.

The Daily Wail has never been very good at maths!
The survey they refer to sampled data between 9 April and 11 April and then again on 20 May and 21 May. By the latter date approximately 8.2m people were furloughed. (Source: https:/ /www.go v.uk/go vernmen t/colle ctions/ hmrc-co ronavir us-covi d-19-st atistic s ).
The report states "19% of employees in our sample report being explicitly asked to work by their employer despite being currently furloughed". (Source: https:/ /www.in et.econ .cam.ac .uk/wor king-pa per-pdf s/wp203 6.pdf )
19% of 8.2m = 1.6m. So where the hell does the Wail get their figure of six million from?

Why do you ignore all the other *** with their hands firmly in the till, their snouts deep in the trough?
When we hear your deafening silence about all the others, it makes us very suspicious of your motives, ynnafymmi, very suspicious.
