Why shouldn't we celebrate our past glories.? If we were not glorious and victorious we would now be living under the Nazi Fascist Jackboot.
These Fascists wanted to ban literature from Jewish writers, what was perceived as decadent art and of course Black orchestrated Jazz music.
Now our modern day fascists are telling us what should or shouldn't be played at the proms. Give me the sound of Elgar any day in preference to the Irony Klaxons.
I suppose if Hitler had his way we would just have Wagner to listen to which is far superior to some of our modern day offerings.

Even some of the footballers stopped doing it. Some Championship teams abandoned it after a few games. I think it was Millwall, QPR and Reading. Maybe others. And nobody os being criticized for not doing it in other sports. There have been refusals in Rugby and F1, nobody's faced any abuse or backlash.
And as the good people of the Answerbank demonstrate their sneering disdain for the patriot, breathing a collective sigh of relief at the apparent placation of British traditionalists, a distinct whiff of whoosh may once again be observed obfuscating their consciousness. The good old BBC appears to have capitulated to public opinion and will play the beloved music …. but will the brave, Covid-defying soloist engaged to render ‘Jerusalem’ sing the lyrics to those cherished anthems too? Of course not. The ‘woke’ have their way …. as many of us suspected they would.
