All this has only happened since the Floyd incident this year and apart from no audience has little to do with the BBC complying with Covid and everything to do with PC/Woke appeasement to the minority.
> no lyrics to certain songs traditionally sang every year
"Traditionally sang" by an audience that is "traditionally there".
The facts are that the BBC has broadcast Last Night Of The Proms live for many years (despite being tagged as anti-British), this year is uniquely different in that there is no audience, and they expect next year to be back to the traditional format.

> Where did you get that idea?
From proclamations like this:
> The BBC is treating its audience as fools
> The BBC has indeed capitulated to woke
If either of these was true then the BBC would not be a supporter of the Last Night of the Proms.
The BBC is the only reason that most people know of or have any experience of the Last Night of the Proms.

Ellipsis, //If either of these was true then the BBC would not be a supporter of the Last Night of the Proms.//
Not so. You’re playing with words - and doing it badly. The BBC has always been a great supporter of the arts and should be commended for that. Unfortunately though, it is now also a great supporter of the ‘Woke’ as is evidenced not only by this disingenuous fiasco, but by its recent commitment to spend an extra £100 million on increasing diversity within the organisation.

Singing in an indoor venue has only just been allowed to resume, and the 2m distance has to be maintained. This hardly gives a choir any time for practice. I have watched last night of the proms most years, but can't recall a choir singing it anyway, but the audience ususally sing the chorus. There is nothing stopping the audience at home singing the chorus if they want to.

Your opinion, which I won't bother trying to change!
I find it hilarious that the supposedly anti-British BBC is the one and only reason why people have heard of, watched, are familiar with, and love that most British of events, the Last Night of the Proms.

Perhaps it would satisfy the Nazis at the BBC if we had a solo from a swaying Diane Abbott in the leapordprint sarong, something along the lines of "Land of coke and tories", followed by a rabble from the extinction rebellion anti-deoderant brigade howling about plastic straws and petrol exhausts, a rousing anthem of "Ohhh Jeremmmy Corbynnn" and lots of biodegradable red or Isis Pride or pro Palestinian flags, and everyone would be happy. Then next year get it back to normal and sod the do-gooders, wokists, and leftwing prats.
Win-win.
Win-win.
