No 10 , Rubbishes a claim made by Dominic Cummings, Father in law, that Boris Johnson will Quit within the next six months. "Sir Humphry Wakefield" . ( FIL ) . Says he expects Boris to step down, because of lingering health effects from when he was hospitalised earlier this year . If It's true , Who can take over ?.

Ignoring the personal spats, in answer to the OP....No, Boris is fit for nothing and certainly not fit for government or PM.

// Gromit , They haven't lost any seats. It is only an opinion poll. //

I know. I didn’t post the link. There isn’t a General Election tomorrow.
Question Author
Gromit, can't wait for the next eight months.
//50 seat loss in only 8 Months,//

Last time I looked the Tories still had 364 seats. That's 78 more than all the rest combined (including those who traditionally do not vote).
Gulliver //Gromit, can't wait for the next eight months./
It's more than eight months to the General Election which on 5th May 2022
NJ

We are discussing an opinion poll. No actual seats have been lost or gained, it is a prediction.

But it does show a huge reduction in the popularity of the Conservatives since election day.
// 5th May 2022 //

Where did you get that nonsense from ?
Ignoring the personal spats, in answer to the OP....No, Boris is fit for nothing and certainly not fit for government or PM.
Gromit:-
//
The next general election in the United Kingdom is scheduled to be held on 5 May 2022 under the Fixed-term Parliaments Act 2011.//
Since they brought in the Fixed Term Parliament Act, which was meant to force five-year gaps between General Elections, we've had three GEs in the space of just over four years, including two called early. I admire people's faith in the idea that *this time* it'll be respected, but it's pretty clearly meaningless. I wouldn't be surprised if it were scrapped altogether.

Granted, circumstances this time around are different -- the Government has a sizeable majority -- but how many times were we reassured that the next GE would be in 2020? And then in 2022? Who's to say what will happen in the coming years that might prompt an early election?

As to the claim in the post, I wouldn't be surprised if Johnson were still feeling the effects of being close to death. I don't see how this is in any sense a criticism. He's human and he's suffered a seriously debilitating illness.

I think as time progresses , The Tory Party and the electorate will realise what a huge mistake they made in putting Johnson in power. He and his party are the laughing stock of Europe if not ,The world. All they have done is fullfilled Boris's Dream of becoming PM , Even his sister said when he was a young boy he would run around shouting he wanted to King of England. Think he and his Cronies have done untold damage to the Tory Party which will take a lot of
re-gaining.
May 2022 was five years after the 2017 election. The clock was reset after 2019, so the next election is due in December 2024.

I'd actually expect it to be in May 2024, as we usually have elections in May and I wouldn't be surprised if there were a general consensus to return to a normal cycle.
Dannyk

Have you forgotten that we had an election in December. The date you have given is 5 years after the 2017 General Election.

The Government is committed to repealing the Fixed Term Parliament Act.
Sorry Gromit, that appears to be wrong and should be 2nd May 2024.
The Act states,

"The polling day for each subsequent parliamentary general election is to be the first Thursday in May in the fifth calendar year following that in which the polling day for the previous parliamentary general election fell."
Seems I too fell into a trap of assuming that the next election was always five years after the previous one. Whoops. 2nd May 2024 it is (for now).
Of course,he isnt fit.The only reason he is in No.10 is because the Labour Party decided in their wisdom to elect a terrorist apologist as their leader.Think about it,two incompetent bunglers promoted way beyond their capabilities as leaders of the two main political parties in Britain.I think they call it a "kakistocracy",being governed by tihs(anagram)rulers.Humphhh.
no danny, the FTPA is quite clear if non of the other methods are invoked the next election is 5 years from the last, Dec 2024. Now with the opposition's agreement, and they'll probably give it, it will probably be in May 2024.
ok didn't realise May was specified also, so yes May 2024.
FTPA, Section 1 (3):

"The polling day for each subsequent parliamentary general election is to be the first Thursday in May in the fifth calendar year following that in which the polling day for the previous parliamentary general election fell."

Hence, May 2024 already. Easy mistake to make because of the "five-year rule", but the "first Thursday in May" is explicit.
