I was around 14/15 when I realised how much my parents did for me and my siblings. It suddenly hit me like a bolt from the blue. I actually remember the exact moment. We are so very lucky if we have good parents.
There's not a single person on this thread who would not willingly give to a starving child allen and you know it. In fact you just used the topic to draw in those you perceive as hard-hearted right wingers so you could bash them (and in some cases insult them beyond the usual accepted bounds of AB) and hold yourself up as a caring human being. All people have questioned is whether it should be given carte-blanche across the board - something anyone with any sense would do.
I agree that a carte-blanche approach would be foolish which is why restricting it to those already in receipt is the only possible way at present - unless a new tier of means testing is introduced and that in itself brings costs.
