The big question is why, in a supposed free country, do people feel the need to lie to polls?

It could be ages until the result is known. Biden too has been making comments as to possible recounts. Trump is threatening the Court over late votes.

People lie to the polls in the USA for the same reason they do here - ie over Brexit and the last election - because holding right wing views is continually denigrated in the Media, implying you are a bigot and a racist etc.

The reason they lie is because we are no longer allowed to have opposing opinions and people are shouted down to such an extent that if they are deemed to have the 'wrong' opinion then its easier for them to lie than face the wrath of the intolerant.
