Disgraceful that this sum of money should be spent on unveiling her statue in the midst of a pandemic and economic crisis.

Yes she did Naomi, and they weren't all Liberal elites. Nor would they all been from the Capital.
Excellent, and long overdue. Shame it isn't in Parliament Square, but there's still plenty of time to put up another. Up yours, Scargill!
spungle, they won't put it up in Parliament Square, that apparently has been ruled out,as too many protestors.
They've got Churchill, Mandela and Cromwell in Parliament Square, all divisive characters- all have survived "the protestors"- a very poor excuse.
as i have said Churchills statue has been vandalised countless times, by those who weren't born when he was alive. those who think perhaps he was a war monger but most i feel see him a good leader for his time, war years.
i am not the one making the decision to not put it in Parliament square i think that was the Tory party....
True, and I expect that it would get vandalised if in Parliament Square... but the Cenotaph on Whitehall has also been defaced, Churchill has been graffitied, Mandela has had bananas hung from him etc, but that doesn't justify them not being there- simply points up ineffective policing. Not a reason these iconic statues should be removed, replaced or moved elsewhere.
The decision to not put up the Thatcher statue in Parliament Square was actually made by Westminster Council :https://www.westminster.gov.uk/baroness-thatcher-statue
I never was a one for statues i confess, but we have loads of them where i live here in the capital . The point Diddly was mking was that she hated thatcher and that she didn't think the cost of the unveiling right at any time or place
Yes, you will always get persons such as diddlydo who would rather the statue not being unveiled at all. Persons who have stood up for something in their life will always have enemies.
As for the statue of Thatcher in Grantham -the funds for the cost of the statue were raised by The Public Memorials Appeal and further money to support the project was raised by the Grantham Community Heritage Association. How members of the public choose to spend their own money is their decision.
Grantham celebrating and commemorating one of their famous children.
£100,000 is peanuts.
For many NO TIME would have been the appropriate time.
Personally I can't see a problem.
This is TGL's favourite poem:
YOU have no enemies, you say?
Alas! my friend, the boast is poor;
He who has mingled in the fray
Of duty, that the brave endure,
Must have made foes! If you have none,
Small is the work that you have done.
You’ve hit no traitor on the hip,
You’ve dashed no cup from perjured lip,
You’ve never turned the wrong to right,
You’ve been a coward in the fight - Charles Mackay

enough said.

oh dear, ^^^^^^ bile spitting popinjay?
didn't see what it was but it was up there and gone pretty quick.
Thatcher hated the working class, and caused the highest unemployment for years. How can anyone say anything good about her. PTT.
Oh so only the toffs voted for her, lol
you hate her fine, so did some, many, but your bile is for a woman long dead, its a long time to harbour this much hatred don't you think.
If anyone doesn't like it, the simple answer is don't look!

Most people don't look at public sculptures anyway?

One of the most, if not THE most famous sculptures in Britain is Nelson's column, but how many people on here could say what he holds in his right hand & what in his left?

Answer: He doesn't have a right hand, or arm it's just an empty sleeve & his left hand rests on his sword.
