There are already some countries and airlines that demand a negative test no more than 92 hours before travel and that has been in place for a few months.

The Government have shot themselves in the foot on this one. They have known that there is/could be a mutation of the virus for some time. They chose to impart that information before their announcement of Tier 4 because they wanted to use it to control people and get them to conform to the new rules. Unfortunately, that alerted the rest of Europe to the news and now the UK is the pariah of Europe (it was well on its way anyway due to Brexit) and the UK aviation industry is going to be even more trashed than it was already. Good one.

France has now stopped lorries entering from Dover and there are concerns traffic coming the other way won’t want to.
