Whenever Boris appears on TV to talk about Brexit he always refers to the EU as 'our friends'.
When will he realise that the French and Germans have never been , or ever likely to be 'our friends'.
The latest evidence of this the French President making political gain over the latest Covid set back.
Throughout the EU's dealing with Brexit negotiations they have been out to screw the UK for everything they can. Friends do not do that.
Boris, stop calling them our friends, because friends they are not.

//To much of Europe and the world Brexit - if we want to mention that - looked like us starting an argument in an empty room,..// That's for two reasons. Ikky: Most Europeans have a different psyche to us and they cannot understand why anybody would not want to participate in the wonderful "European Project." They don't understand that the majority of the...

i believe that one poster said that Macron has never been a friend to UK - this one act of kindness,
didn't the allies keep our enemy Germany alive with the Berlin airlift.
Shaney, never been our friends was in relation to the French.
Berlin Airlift begins In response to the Soviet blockade of land routes into West Berlin, the United States begins a massive airlift of food, water, and medicine to the citizens of the besieged city. For nearly a year, supplies from American planes sustained the over 2 million people in West Berlin.

The OP says French and Germans have never been our friends.
"Most Europeans have a different psyche to us"

Indeed they do, much of it because they have a lot bitterer experience of war than we do.
Brexit may be a good or a bad thing but I deplore the mindset it has encouraged among us that we are somehow enemies. Far better to be reasonably friendly neighbours bound in a common cause than backslapping buddies with nothing in common (I suddnly thought of Johnson and Trump for a moment there!)
France is our friend. Ok, that may be speaking relatively, it is true. You've only got to look at the rest of the world to see that.
Shaney, sorry, he is the only one mentioning the Germans, I should have paid more attention.
haven;t they also wanted to block our exit from the EU.
Its really called BS, and for a long time now it has worked very well, until everyone started BS******ing.
No problem Danny, I've been very friendly with a German for nearly 48 years in a few days time :)
Boris is so obviously out of his depth as to be a busted flush. What we need now is a leader who can get some sort of deal done and someone who can find an exit strategy from the virus.Sadly I don’t think there is anyone so Macron et al will continue to put the knife at any opportunity and the Two Ronnies of doom and Professor Legover, now happily back in the fold, will continue to pursue for greater lockdowns while the economy continues to go down the Swanee at an alarming rate.
no idea what you are on about.
that was to ick
danny i know.
I'd have thought the Berlin airlift proved the point that the UK, France and Germany are fundamentally on the same side :-)
Canada refused to take part you know, and yet at one point we wanted a Canada-style trade deal :-)
Yes I know that's a daft argument!
we obviously werent on the same side during two world wars ick
But we are now and want to stay that way.
That was a key reason for the treaty of Rome
The Berlin airlift was 70 years ago,the world has moved on.The French have always put themselves first,we owe them nothing, remember all those white crosses. The Germa S and others can see the Euro Zone is disintegrating and they are trying to hold it together and they want us to pay.
