is beyond belief. Mass graves. Around 10,000 dead kids discarded and secretly buried. I am ashamed to be a Catholic.

Paigntonian, I'm not religious, but if atheists had committed those kind of crimes- it wouldn't make me ashamed of being one. If you have lost your faith and belief, that's one thing. But you should know they aren't all the same.

It's really hard to go to Mass when, firstly, 931 priests in England and Wales have admitted abuse against children over a ten-year period (reported in the Sunday Times but, strangely, not reported elsewhere) and now the appalling death toll of babies in the republic who were under the 'care' of nuns. I have come to the conclusion that if, if my kids were young, I would not leave them in the care of a Catholic priest. And the only possible consequence of that opinion is that I should not worship in a Catholic church. It's very hard to abandon a sincerely held belief. Truly hard. I don't know where else to go when my 'anchor' has gone. Rudderless.
burley: Of course they're not. There are 1.2 billion of us. I said I was ashamed of what has happened. And I would not leave one of my grandkids in the care, however briefly, of a Catholic priest. And if I didn't trust a priest with my grandkids I don't think I can honestly pray, and help, in a Catholic Church.

collective guilt - get over it
someone asked me - why didnt the pope intervene?
er because I think he didnt know .....
The 600 kids in the Tuam back yard ( unhallowed ground they were just sort of tipped in) has been around for a long time. I knew about it before I retired 2012. Why today?
