.. when they are often having to apologise for its atrocities? Surely it's time to disenfranchise the state from religion?

"The evil acts were carried out by evil people & had nothing to do with Catholicism or Christianity in fact they were the antithesis of it." Khandro on the previous page to this. Khandro - the vile abuses were carried out by people in Holy Orders and wearing habits and dog-collars - they were then stoutly denied for many years by a church which knew exactly what...

Sparta: This is very strange but my contributions to the site have suddenly become attributed to you.
:-) Buen

Can I just say that The Chair, Mozz and Sparta have explained the reasoning behind the apology exactly the same as I would have done.
these posts are - - nearly right
actually it never was ( state religiion )

The History of he Constitutional Law of oireland is fascinating compared to such as the US. Wiki's article is re written as so much history is.(*)

At the toim 1922, The church of Ireland ( proddy ) was v fresh and so they did NOT have an established church - the govt pays the churchmen's wages. No No
But they did recognise the special relationship of de Cart;lic chorch as a sudduv consolation prize to the men in frocks

this ended in 1973. Why bodder? the framers of the constitution made it clear if you read them.

It was all going to be some wonderful socialist free thinking paradise. Constance Markievicz was a bit of a gal. The first president of a free oireland was a prot. I bet you didnt know that

(*) Their second house was called the senate
de valera ( "in 1959 still refighting the battles of 1914") got possed with them in the thirties and abolished them to give him a free hand. Actually too much a free hand and they were restored. 1936 during the abdication la-dee-la - de valera demanded six constitutional acts passed by London before he wd agree hem hem that Edward VIII was NOT King of Ireland, something he had campaigned for for 40 y.
so they did
London was very keen that Edward VIII stopped being king of all his dominions on the same day ( god knows why, but v v important)
oh god all of you
during 2nd lockdown y'all need to read
" de Oirish Constitution: de forst wonderful 40y"

it is all there
nope state religion nichty
//The Taoiseach (Irish prime minister) has apologised after an investigation into the country's mother and baby homes//

First up; Why call him the 'Taoiseach' when the text is in English - when we don't call the Emperor of Japan, "Tennō (天皇," ?

As to the OP. this is pure wokery at large, what happened in 19th century orphanages is nothing to do with him & nothing for which he should apologise, It's past, it's all over, - c'est fini, es ist vorbei !
//First up; Why call him the 'Taoiseach' when the text is in English //

Taoiseach Means chief or leader in english so it would sound weird calling him by the English meaning
khandro - Will you be bringing this up every time someone mentions the Taoiseach, because I don't think, on balance, anyone actually cares.....

The atrocities carried out in Ireland in the Convents and Orphanages are still within living memory for far too many Irish citizens.
You're ignorant of your history, Khandro. Why are you talking about 19th century orphanages?
This was not 19th century and most certainly not orphanages. Perhaps read about it?
And I know from family experience it's not over.
Well done the Taoiseach

... and the Tee Shock!
//Same reason the UK has church of England//

Wrong - we have the Church of Scotland up here!

I think maggie has painted her face blue again!
Your ignorance knows no bounds KKK
Maggie is correct. The established church in Scotland is the Presbyterian church (not the Wee Frees). As they don't have any bishops they are not represented in the House of Lords. The Church of Wales was disestablished in 1923 and became the Church in Wales, whose bishops also cannot sit in the Lords.
I thought blue Maggies would be your thing Tora.

Any thoughts on how clueless your OP was, or are you just going to attack individuals on here instead?
If it was happening now, because he is the PM of Ireland he must certainly apologise & resign, because the buck stops at him, but it isn't we hope happening now, so how can he or anyone apologise for murder carried out by someone else ?
The evil acts were carried out by evil people & had nothing to do with Catholicism or Christianity in fact they were the antithesis of it.
Question Author
well I will own up to not knowing that Catholicism inst the state religion any more but I still think it's disgusting that anyone gives it the time of day.
These atrocities have everything to do with the Catholic Church, Khandro.
From the families who were so scared of the church and its priests they sent their girls away to these "homes" to the evil nuns who felt it their duty to punish them.
Like I suggested, Khandro. Do some reading. Listen to the women and their lost children talking today.
gness, read the last sentence of my above post again (16:23)
