Just torture and murder a vulnerable woman and the state will protect you forever. Damn savages should never see the light of day again but they'll be out in 2031, free and anonymous and paid for by the state. Wonderful.

However, the state, and the law, do not act on emotional impulse, and have to consider all the facts, and the potential for future tragedy.
Reading the details of the ruling, it is clear that the judge is granting anonymity on the basis of the mental conditions suffered by the two girls in question, and serious concerns for their safety.
The law demands that suitable punishment is given to offenders, and yes again I understand that many people will feel that a custodial sentence with potential parole is not sufficient, but we have to abide by the laws as they stand.
What the law does not allow is for prisoners who have served their time to be released into potential situations where vigilante justice may be enacted, because that is not how the law allows society to operate.
Yes I understand the outrage and anger at the crime, and the perpetrators, but vigilantism is not the answer for crimes committed by people suffering from mental illness - that is not the approach of a civilised society.

I must confess I didn't read as far as the sentencing advice - what sentence would you prefer?
Plus, I would suggest that the judge has put in the anonymity rule so that it is in place if the women are released, but given their mental health issues, it is possible that release may not happen, they may be in psychiatric care for the rest of their days.

Sick evil monsters. You can just imagine them urging one another on to do what they did. Anonymity??? Don't their friends and neighbours know? They had enough savvy to post on Instagram. To put screws into a stick and beat that poor woman to death. They should be given a lethal injection and put away for ever . Not cared for in the relative safety of a prison. It's a sick society today when young people can commit crimes like this and not pay the ultimate price. I feel sick to the pit of my stomach .
While i agree they should have got - and served - much longer sentences, i believe their chances of repeat offending are slim. Firstly neither will be allowed back in or anywhere near Hartlepool. They will, of course, be banned from contacting one another - a stipulation of their release. And even if they did meet up again, their chances of finding a victim as vulnerable as poor Angela Wrightson must indeed be very slim. Just reading about Angela's chaotic lifestyle fills me with pity.

No-one would want for a minute to minimise the horror of their crimes, but the situation has to be viewed in context - specifically that it has been adjudged that the two women have significant mental health issues which may well mean that they remain incarcerated for life.
However, if they do finish the sentences laid down by law, that does not mean that they can then become targets for vigilantes who mete out their own version of 'justice' based entirely on an over-developed sense of self-righteousness.
