Why do we have more news reports of persons who are devastated (to find out) that they had robbed a local bank?

It may not have been anything like that, vulcan. Her parents may simply have needed her to "be there." We don't know; we shouldn't judge. And there will more examples of this as the current situation continues. People cannot live their lives like this indefinitely and it is foolish in the extreme for the government to believe that they can or will. They need to develop a strategy that accommodates the fact that people will not keep out of other people's houses.

/////Ignored by quite a lot, sqad, ///
I totally agree, which has been the problem of "spacing " throughout this pandemic.
/////It may be working - who knows?////
I do, for one.
Infection rates are falling,"r" factor below one, hospital admissions falling and deaths due to Covid also falling.
The Government has made multiple mistakes in the past, but on this occasion they haven't..........providing that lockdown isn't lifted too soon.

//"Amanda is aware of the travel rules and is devastated she had to break them on this one occasion." So admitting she did break the rules knowing full well what they were.//
But did she break them? If she had a reasonable excuse to leave home and to remain away from home she did not. I note (as far as I can tell) no action has been taken against her.

Sunk.
I don't know where you live and what dates you are comparing, but certainly the death rates, although coming down are higher, much higher than before Christmas and certainly much higher than the previous peak because, the "peak" was higher after Christmas, hence the lockdown.
Since the lockdown all parameters are falling, hence it is working.

What region is this? I'd be particularly interested in the trends between your two data points.
Nationally, it is clear that lockdown has had an impact. It's also rather misleading to say that Tier 3 and the current Lockdown are identical. They are not (as evidenced, among other things, by the fact that the current lockdown measures are "tier 4").
