Why are some people so vile?
A man has been charged for tweeting 'The only good Brit soldier is a dead one, burn old fella burn', just what was he thinking by saying something so wicked, if it wasn't for servicemen like Sir Tom then this fool would likely be under German rule!

Because people posting abuse of a kindly old man just after he's died is very upsetting to his living relatives. OK to send them a letter containing this abuse? OK to stand outside their doors and shout this abuse? OK to post this abuse on social media?
Because I was a vey innocent non-political 18 year old TTT, he was my first boyfriend from school. Just saying a lot of the hard left have quite a contempt for the British Armed Forces.
It's just not OK for any of it, they don't know him SK what gives them the right to do what he's done, he couldn't have done what Sir Tom did, not with his Amoeba brain!
/// typo, so , not SK ///
I’m not agreeing with what he’s done, but I just can’t see why it warrants the time and expense of arrest and court time.
You can equally look at it the other way, though, ellipsis. Arrested for being cruel, being thoughtless, inconsiderate, joking...
I really really dislike what he's said. But the idea of being a criminal for it, is quite a step. As I said, how are we going to measure this "offence" in law?
Number of outraged twitter posts? Number of people called snowflakes on each side? Where does this lead to?
So he goes Scot ( pardon the pun) free?
Our laws help us to live in a civilised society.
When the 'protect free speech, even if you don't agree with what's being said' brigade get their way then even a stroll to the supermarket could entail walking past a barrage of ignorant verbal abuse.

But, hey - everyone has right to gob off don't they?

Shakes head and wanders off.
prudie: "because I was a vey innocent non-political 18 year old TTT, he was my first boyfriend from school." - so you are noit talking about now then?
" Just saying a lot of the hard left have quite a contempt for the British Armed Forces. " - that has always baffled me, how do they think the conditions for them to have the freedoms to openly hate came about?
Yes, ellipsis, that doesn't answer what I asked though.
ABers (some, not all) throw around words like snowflakes, the permanently offended, taking offence on someone else's behalf...
But- when they agree with it, do exactly the same.
Harassment, as you mentioned above, is already illegal. Are you genuinely wanting people to be arrested, for a stupid, general online post?
Mamya, nobody is talking about harassment. Just online posts.
The law is an attempt to provide an equivalence between online and offline abuse. If you can get away with stuff online that you can't get away with offline then what's the point?
This does seem to have a whiff of the pitchfork about it.
It's the law of your country, not some lynch mob.
How will that work, ellipsis, realistically? No physical threats or violence there. A vile opinion (in my view), but maybe not in everyone's.
What are you measuring nastiness by?
Stickybottle//The irony is that because of lots of dead British soldiers he has the freedom to type the rubbish that he does.
I hope the judge has a particularly nasty bout of something on the day this idiot is sentenced//

No, the irony is your post.
You're asking me to defend it. I have no intention or need of defending it. It is the law already. My post of 19:39 gave some hints as to why.
I'm not asking you to defend it. I got the idea you agreed with it. Sorry.
Saw this on the day it was tweeted. Just thought 'what a ***' and moved on.

Same as the Hitler dog...you can't jail people for offending. (he got an £800 fine)
