What's Happened At The Borderd After Brexit, Any Hold Ups?
Anybody know if there has been hold ups at customs and queues of lorries waiting at the borders because of paperwork as was predicted? It seems to have gone quiet, I have heard the occasional snippet about the fishing industry and individual firms struggling to get things through but that's about it.

It depends which border you are enquiring about Dave.
The cross-channel border seems to be coping reasonably. However, the border that has been created within the United Kingdom so as to protect the EU's precious "Single Market" does not see to be doing quite so well:

But then that's hardly surprising. If you create a border within an independent sovereign state so as to avoid one between that state and a supranational political bloc then a few people are bound to get the hump.

The Road Haulage Association claims that the export volume of goods was down 68% at one point, and says that now around 50% of lorries are returning empty to the continent.

Theresa May was about to do a deal with the EU which would have meant roughly what we have now. The DUP wouldn't have it (unsurprisingly, but then why support Brexit?)
Boris Johnson promised the DUP - in person at their conference - that4 he'd never agree to anything similar.
Then he did.

At least no one has come up with a solution. Boris Johnson's "achievement" there was simply to go back on his word to ne lot of people on order to please a greater number.
Now he and his chief enforcer are blaming the EU for something which is certainly rubbish: but he agreed it and signed it off.

That is only true if you believe that there must be a barrier between the UK and the EU. There is no doubt that the EU weaponised the Irish Border issue as soon as the Brexit talks began. What has been clear from the outset is that neither the UK, Ireland nor the EU was prepared to impose such a border. We have now moved to a situation where that weaponisation has continued. We have the ridiculous situation (for example) where anything with soil attached (potted plants, used farm machinery) cannot be moved from one part of the United Kingdom to the other. It seems GB soil has become severely contaminated since January 1st (despite being perfectly agreeable for the previous 48 years and despite the UK not relaxing its sanitary regulations - with NI being subject to that same regime). Frankly the EU are extracting the urine. We should have left Ireland and their EU masters to devise and arrange whatever border controls they wished - which almost certainly would have been none.
