Well, that’s probably the wrong word.
Tomorrow, I’m going into a supermarket for the first time since March 2020. I have a list of non food or grocery items, which I shall be looking for and hopefully buying.
We will still be being very careful..mask, hand gel, distancing, etc..but having both had our first jab, and numbers coming down considerably, we feel it will do us both good to get out there.
Interesting what floats your boat these days :/

I initially just used a local corner store that opens at 5am (on the basis that I wasn't likely to encounter many crowds at that time of day) but I eventually settled on a weekly visit to Morrison's during the last hour of trading (usually on a Saturday). Even though their Ipswich store is one of their biggest, there never seems to be more than about three or four other customers in there at that time.
I've ended up with mixed feelings about my weekly visit to a supermarket. It's been a mixture of my natural dislike of routine shopping and the the pure joy of actually being able to drive somewhere!

Numbers are reducing thanks to Lockdown - the virus is still out there as potent (or even more so) as when it first reached our shores.
Having endured over a year's solitary confinement, and still awaiting my first jab, I'll not risk live shopping yet as Sainsbury's and other suppliers (I've used getting on for a dozen different ones during the year) satisfactorily meet my demands.

I have had three visits to supermarkets since last March - just short visits. It felt strange because our supermarkets were so friendly and, being a very small tow, everybody knows everybody else. It had all changed . They were quiet and miserable. We shall continue now with click and collect from Morrison and Tesco deliveries. OH has been getting a few things from Lidl and visited Tool Station and the Animal supplies warehouse throughout the pandemic. The only shopping I like is on line I haven't visited a shopping centre for years. I never will again! Nothing to do with the pandemic!! I don't like shopping. ☹️
Got a pub, Sunday lunch, booked in May and 2 pub meals booked for June in St Ives. Oorahh. Been in and out of M&S all through, maybe once every 3 weeks, but Tesco for the comestibles and "cleaning" products and fruit and veg delivered by a local greengrocer. Both have been been brilliant. Fish again fetched from a local fishmonger and put in the freezer. Like smow looking towards getting the garden up and running. Due for delivery this week(honest) all my seeds, 35 small potted box hedge shrubs to replace the front hedge, a ton of washed sand, 8 bags of cement and 14 m² of paving slabs. Help.
Enjoy your shopping trip tomorrow Vagus. I recommend going during the afternoon as its less busy then and not having been in a supermarket for a year, you'll be able to take your time and adjust.
Dont be rushed by anyone, people are much more used to waiting for each other now. Anyone who doesnt want to wait while you choose your product can be sworn at and told to keep their distance! Stick to a forward route and try not to double back on yourself too much.
And buy yourself a little treat which makes shopping in person worth the hassle!

M&S have been well organised and kept a well ordered process throughout Vagus. Have no qualms about venturing into their store if it is as proficient as ours has been. The staff were all so obviously well drilled and advised, that I felt safer in there than in our Doctors surgery when we had the flu jab way back when. If I could go back and met myself at the onset of the pandemic I would say ... Togo, get a bigger freezer, get a good comfy masks and filters, and make sure that you stay in touch with family and friends.
Maydup, thank you, we will be going in the afternoon having checked online when the least busy time is.
jno, crikey, I hope that lot are in school!!
Togo, we bought a bigger freezer Christmas before last when we had a load of family and babies here. The old one is in the garage so we’re fully stocked with freezable stuff, sometimes feels like we’re ‘preppers’ given the amount of frozen and tinned stuff we have :)
We’re the same apc, no lunches out, day trips, little jaunts. I’m the proud owner of a lovely new bread knife, micro plane grater, towels and bed linen, all thanks to lockdown.
Thanks choux, appreciate it, it’s a bit daunting but we do need to get into the world again.
