British expats in Spain who have failed to register as residents face deportation due to Brexit.

Just reaction to OP. The people I know in France who did everything 'right' - i.e. registered with the tax authorities, the Mairie, the Social Security system and paid any dues, have had - and are having - no problems.

There were a lot of 'chancers' (often odd-jobbers) who were bypassing the systems and I know that even before Brexit France was keen to get rid. I suspect it's the same sort of people in Spain who are being targeted.

Genuine EU citizens living here were told at the start that they were able to carry on, with a bit more paperwork, and I'm sure that I heard something from the EU on a reciprocal basis ages ago. Anyway, the registered and genuine people I know have no problem.
