The function of schools is to educate its pupils and prepare them for live beyond education. If they are going to earn a living and make a contribution to the society in which they live they will be surprised to find that it often means complying with terms and conditions with which they may not necessarily agree but which they have to swallow in order to earn a...

don't bother just give them a free degree/whatever at the start, that's where we are headed.

Pixie. We call private schools either as 'private schools' or as 'public schools'. Public schools are not state schools. They are private, fee-paying schools.
Niqab and burqa I agree are extreme sinister and inappropriate... they seem quite different to the hijab though at least to me... I feel pretty indifferent toward that.
14:23, irrelevant, paigntonian. Why would you want students to do that?
“ perlease, these people always want special treatment.”

which people?
if this were America burning the flag would come with a penalty. why did they think this was ok, i am disgusted at that gesture.

I ask again. Who are * these people*.?
did you mean immorals?
//Earlier this week, the Guardian reported that the school was facing mass staff resignations, a student protest and a vote of no confidence in its headteacher.//
/All students should have the right to wear what they like. It's nothing to do with education. Or racism. Maybe schools should stop judging clothing, and concentrate on teaching./

Maybe parents should tell their off-spring to concentrate on learning rather than picking on any excuse to skive. Wonder where they learn that concept?
