Covid Passports
Keir Starmer came close to declaring a policy position this morning, saying that while he won’t come out against Covid passports at this stage, their potential rollout would be against the “British instinct”.
Is he correct, would a passport system be a good idea ?

I don't know about other EU countries, but everyone in Germany has a certificate of vaccination, a yellow booklet 12 x 9 mm which contains all the person's vaccinations: 'flu. shingles, brucellosis (from ticks) etc. It seems an excellent idea & your doctor can see when it is time for renewals & boosters.
It will now work well for covid vaccine receivers (when they get them!) to allow freer movement, I can't see why anyone would object to its implementation.
Could it be the added cost to the NHS, I wonder ?

So far as an actual passport for foreign travel goes, it won't be his or our choice. Countries will decide what they want to do and we will have to accept it or not go there. Compulsory health certification for foreign travel has been around for yonks and I don't see this as any different.
KS is a master of fence sitting I could make a rude joke here but I won't.
and no those little cards won't do

Keir Starmer, referring to the 'British instinct' must have forgotten about the emergency issue of identity cards during and following the second world war which were withdrawn seven years after the war finished. This situation is different but an emergency never the less. the Covid cards could be withdrawn when the pandemic is over but in the meantime could be useful in helping to kickstart the economy. A flimsy card is not the answer but obviously something more substantial would be needed.
