//...an authoritarian law which effectively gives the uk govt to take away the sacred right to protest if they feel like it// Alas that "sacred right" (which is actually certainly not sacred and very often, in the way the protests are organised, not a right) often involves curtailing the freedoms of many more people trying to go about their lawful business....
Fanny, I wasn't just talking about those on the street, the same applies to AB - always a small number of people who like to pick a fight rather than seek mutual understanding and some kind of consensus.
teacake, I meant using insulting language without any intelligent discussion or reasoning; obviously there can be no physical violence here, they would only use that in the real world.
I think it’s a very badly chosen name to be honest.
It’s not going to get waverers inside either.
I’m sympathetic to the cause but when violence occurs at a protest it doesn’t help that particular cause
imma... there's no mutual understanding without talking between opposing gangs. Not popular with many, but true all the same. Violence in Ireland was reduced not by one side obliterating the other but by talks.
Atheist, I see many intelligent discussions minus any insulting language in most topics. Now Chatterbank is supposed to be very different. You can ask a serious question, but it does say its for natter and nonsense so you may get a sarcastic/ fun answer. It also says don't expect a serious answer.
To answer literally, I have never believed incitement should be a crime, although it is.
It means only "encouragement".... so it depends how much you want to let people off personal responsibility, as if the poor loves just can't help themselves.
tea... fortunately most of AB is interesting, fun, educational and friendly, spiced up with some sharp exchanges. People who enjoy street violence go elsewhere unless lockdown keeps them indoors and they vent their repressed rudeness online.
TTT - // TBF Andy it was other Kill the bill "protests" that made me think that, you know injuring police officers, burning police cars, attacking police etc. I think one could be forgiven for thinking the target here was the police. //
One could be forgiven for thinking anything - but that's not the same as assuming that everyone else thinks it as well.
When they see a US president get away with incitement that in its self will sow many seeds. When you see the British government making new laws over night to gag people and using covid as the excuse, expect big problems.
Anyone with common sense can see that 'Kill The Bill' means get rid of the anti-protest bill. Kill The Bill is a catchy slogan; it rhymes & it is 3 words long (Get Brexit Done, Hands, Face, Space, etc). The fact that protestors have clashed with police does not distinguish it from many other protests, such as the 4 or 5 anti Poll Tax protests i attended, none of which were intended to cause conflict with those policing the marches.
