Should we stop ALL international flights in and out of the country and also close Channel Tunnel and ports etc to try and stop this new covid variant, drastic times lead to drastic measures!

looks like the Indian variant is getting everyone all excited. reports on initial research suggests a 30-40% increase in transmissibility and set against the planned easing of lockdown, could result in a surge in cases as big as was seen at the start of the year - although vaccines should mitigate against serious illness. already the Welsh have broken ranks and have withdrawn some of monday's easements.

If it means locking the country down again surely we must consider closing the borders, some have pointed out on other threads that plane loads of people arriving from India go back to their homes, places of work, schools etc and are spreading the virus. I'm not picking on the Indian people, its just that it has been proved that the variant is from that country!

that's because it is from India, we should have shut down flights too and from India as soon as humanly possible.

And that is trotted out for every 'variant' I have heard. Then it goes back to normal.

The vulnerable are pretty much doublr vaccinated, why should we lock down. 'Lockdown' was supposed to 'safe the crappy NHS' now the vaccine is pretty much covering the vulnerable and so wont hit the NHS why would we need to lcok down?

If it was that bad why did Johnson and Hancock leave the doors open to India?

Its a total shambles - and its down to Johnson and HAncock.

It’s probably about the Indian variant Emmie , it’s showed here in Tynemouth and in Newcastle ,he’s talking of local lockdowns to combat it....deep joy :0(
