Germany is the most powerful nation in Europe and in the EU and Angela Merkel is just about the longest surviving head of government.
Of course now the Uk is out of the EU we are also out on a limb. It’s all rather sad.

Ichkeria, why do you think we’re out on a limb? This planet doesn’t consist solely of the twenty something countries that form the EU. For summer holidays I’d choose the Caribbean over European destinations any day. We’re not out on a limb. The world is now our oyster!

We didn't "dump Europe." We voted to leave the European Union. Europe is not the EU and the EU is not Europe.

That is strictly speaking true, however to all intents and purposes they pretty much are one and the same. And for now at least we are pretty isolated, not just because of the sea. While Germany is the most powerful country however they can’t force this on the rest of the EU and it seems pretty unlikely to succeed.

This country is part of the continent of Europe, anneasquith, and always will be, but the funny thing is I’ve met Americans and Australians and all sorts on holiday in
Europe and they don’t ‘belong’ to Europe either.
