Pretty Stupid
//BBC tennis pair Boris Becker and John Inverdale faced a volley of criticism after calling a player’s fiancée “very pretty”.//
It’s sexist - apparently. What a joyless bunch the 'Woke' are!! The most intolerant of all.
Thank goodness they didn’t say she was ugly!

It shows just how twisted the world has become when a compliment is seen as derogatory.

I'm surprised that people can't appreciate that just because something is meant as a compliment doesn't mean it comes across that way. It's something that has been appreciated for ages, and has nothing to do with being "woke". Haven't you seen Mr. Collins (from Pride & Prejudice)?
This doesn't mean that you can't pay a compliment. It does mean that you should give more regards to the situation you're in when intending to do so (and the tone of your delivery, for that matter). Which is as it should be.

"Has anyone ever known a pretty woman complain that she had been told so? "
Err yes. If a woman is minding her own business (and not at an event or venue where she's obviously looking for the opposite sex), it's only polite to refrain from providing unsolicited comments about her appearance. Lots of women find that uncomfortable.

I expect that the Sun wanted to turn a few words into a story - tennis, pretty girl (with photos to parade), 'woke'. All the ingredients to wake up the snoozing Tunbridge Wells brigade and the wide awake and alert 'woke' brigade.
So naturally they phone up Stephanie Hilborne (and no doubt others) for a comment.
And so here we all are at AB having a good grumble.

Stephanie Hilborne, Chief Executive of Women in Sport, complained to the BBC who said ‘Boris Becker made a light-hearted comment not intended to cause offence'. The story is carried in other national newspapers too.
Jim, Good grief! Mr Collins?! Are you serious?
I think the accuracy of my assessment of the joyless woke has been confirmed here. Cheer up chaps - and thank the Lord that it's pretty safe to say that you're very unlikely to be insulted in this disgraceful manner. :o)

A man chases a girl until she catches him. An old song, but true. I will continue to compliment a lady upon her appearance, prettiness, and attractiveness and no woke knobbers are going to stop me. For instance, naomi24 I admire your opinions on this site highly. You seem to me to be a very nice person. Erudite, interesting, and your contributions well worth reading.
