Freedom day should have marked the start of a economic recovery, but no, we have hammered a new nail through our foot. Turn the kin thing off NOW! Does anyone support the "pingdemic"? All it's done is create a method of bunking off work. Surely the government can see it serves no purpose. What was the purpose of the vaccine if we still carry on like there isn't one?

“ the app is fine, it is performing its function as designed” Yes fair comment. What is rubbish is the fact that the govt didn’t anticipate this situation. And is now not acting decisively to deal with it. In fact worse, sending out confused messages

//We should stop it pinging by stopping new infections.//
How?
//The under 20s should be prioritised for the jab.//
Unlike when I had mine, where I had to attend a timed appointment at a place not of my choosing, anybody over 18 can now simply turn up and get jabbed. Facilities have been laid on all over the shop. The vaccination programme is running at about 30% of its capacity because it is predominantly younger people who remain to be done and they are not turning up. I heard on the radio that this is because there is, among them, a general reticence to have the vaccine but also because they live such incredibly busy lives. I saw how busy a load of them were at 12.01 am last Monday morning:

I respect those who don’t want to have the vaccine for whatever reason. I think they are foolish, but I still respect their decision. However, don’t tell me they are “too busy.” That said, they should not be coerced into having medical treatment that they don’t want. And the rest of us should not be forced to show our papers to go for a pint in the pub because of their reticence. It’s “Covid” today that will force that. Tomorrow it will be ‘flu; the day after it will be a bad cold (or anything else NHS managers feel threatened by).
And still nobody has explained what it is that firms running vital services have to obtain “exemption” from.

Dictator Johnson needs to go along with many of his Regime(yes its not a Government)
I want a proper Tory installed in No10 so I have a Party back to vote for.
This App is an unbelievable white elephant, ludicrously expensive and doesnt work too well. I would like to see a full breakdown of where the money has gone and in particular how those recipients are related to civil servants, MP's etc.
The App should be stopped now, we still have the TRack and trace system in place which is more than enough now.

Why are they foolish. Many wont even know they have had it and the rest wont get anything worse than a bad cold. Why inject something into yourself whenit will do nothing for you. Remember the 'vaccine' wont stop you getting it and it wont stop you passing it on.
It's bizarre the Government are pushing it so hard.

It's probably because I am jaundiced by the likely effect the virus would have on somebody of my age, youngmaf. If I were in my twenties I imagine my view would be entirely different. But as I said, it's their decision which they make for all sorts of reasons (even if it's simply "can't be bothered") and I respect that. I'm double jabbed and that's all I can do. I don't expect people (of any age) to have the jab if they don't want it and I am appalled at the government's moves to make "Covid passports" a condition of entry to anywhere. It's coercion, plain and simple.
That said, I am absolutely aghast at the way this government has proceeded to grab defeat from the jaws of victory. There is simply no need to wait until the entire adult population is vaccinated before properly relaxing all restrictions. The vast majority of those who intend to get the jab have now had it. But the country is now in a worse position - because of the ridiculous app - than it was a year ago when a vaccine was still six months away.
The individuals and companies who are complaining about the effect the app has on them have a simple solution - simply ditch it. It is preposterous that hundreds of thousands of people, the vast majority of whom will not contract the virus, are sitting at home whilst the country's services are beginning to fail as a result. Almost four weeks ago the government warned that we could see 50,000 new infections a day. Well we got that and the government must have known the effect that level of cases would have when the app did its stuff. Not for the first time, not only did they not warn of such an event but they took no action to mitigate its effects. A shambles does not adequately describe their efforts.

Further evidence of the shambolic effects of the handling of the pandemic - this time down to devolution:

"Three students have been refused exemption from travel quarantine rules because their vaccination certificates do not show they have had two jabs.
The St Andrews University friends all received their first dose in England and their second in Scotland.
But only the second jab shows up on their NHS Scotland paperwork - meaning they would have to isolate if they travel abroad.
The BBC has also learned of problems for English students studying in Wales."
"Ms Chamberlain [the MP of one of the students] described the confusion between NHS Scotland and NHS England as "a shameful situation that should never even have come up".
Yes, you could say that.
