teacake - // But not ever seen regarding Blair. // I for one have been a vociferous critic of the war-monger for decades, and lose no opportunity to say so whenever his name is mentioned on here, and I am far from the only one. I would respect him a lot more if he had the dignity to be ashamed of his actions, and keep quiet, but he still pops up with his perma-tanned...
sqad/shirley.... you are so generous with the lives of our forces personnel. Do you think you'd also encourage the indigenous population to fight for their own country?
The Taliban won the country in battle in 1995. The beaten other factions didn’t have any money or weaponry once the Americans stopped supplies when the Russians retreated.
Six years later the Taliban were ousted by the US and British invaders and a puppet Government installed. They were only able to rule with US protection.
Now that protection has gone, and the superior Taliban have again seized control.
So it isn’t really that they won’t defend themselves, more like they can’t defend themselves.
shirley //13:19 - I hadn't answered !!//
sqad answered for you. Anyway a minute later you gave the same answer anyway.
//Won't be changing my view because you (or anybody else) doesn't like it. // - no one is asking you to, I'm just asking you to confirm you are happy to sacrifice our forces personnel indefinitely for a country that won't fight for itself. It's a reasonable question.
It is futile to criticise the government. Once the US withdrew the UK had no choice but to follow, or are some people so foolish or naive enough to think that we could do the job on our own?
TTT.....the Russian Army couldn't beat the Taliban and neither could the combined allied forces, so you really believe that the Afghan army could be trained to out wit the Talibans in 20 years.
The Brits *** off, the Americans did the same and it I was inthe Afghan army, I would be off too.
gromit: "So it isn’t really that they won’t defend themselves, more like they can’t defend themselves. " - they have 6 million fighting age men........they never gave it a proper go.
sqad: "TTT.....the Russian Army couldn't beat the Taliban and neither could the combined allied forces" - yet you think we should stay indefinitely and sacrifice our forces indefinitely? Does that not look to you like a slight juxtaposition?
JD: "It is futile to criticise the government. Once the US withdrew the UK had no choice but to follow, or are some people so foolish or naive enough to think that we could do the job on our own? " - at least two on this page JD!
Our 'forces personnel' join up to fight and keep the peace. I'm sacrificing no-one.
So what if I said the same as Sqad, it doesn't make my point any less valid and I am more than happy with what I have said. End off (as you are so keen on saying).
shirley: "Our 'forces personnel' join up to fight and keep the peace. I'm sacrificing no-one. " - so you are happy that they die in a dump that cannot be civilised? Right oh! Yes their job is to fight, but in our interests when needed, not to have their lives squandered pointlessly like you seem to be ok with.
