Gaps on supermarket shelves. Fast food outlets pulling milkshakes and bottled drinks from their menus. Restaurants running out of chicken and closing. Empty vending machines. Online grocery orders full of substitutions. Fruit and vegetables rotting in the fields.

These are just some of the most visible signs of Britain’s deepening supply chain crisis, which has seen stocks in shops and warehouses slump to their lowest levels since the Confederation of British Industry began surveying in 1983.

It has led to dire warnings that the UK’s food system, which has been hit hardest by delivery delays and labour shortages, is in danger of reaching breaking point and may not be able to meet Christmas demand.

Maybe the fit and healthy unemployed should be used to do some of the packing of foods, picking fruit and veg etc -Provide them with travelling costs and an extra amount of u/credit when they do a full days work. Who knows they may enjoy it!!! and it could lead to a full time job for them. (I am excluding the layabouts I see in town everyday milling around - more interested at shouting insults at the passers by).
quite a few substitutions in my lastest delivery.
they won't do it, i watched the news few weeks ago, and the farmer said that he feared many of his crops will go to waste, that the EU nationals have returned home and that the Brits don't want to know. Not sure how you persuade them to do such back breaking work, for its not an easy life.
bakerwales, my nephew sent me a clip of these layabouts doing what you say in Port Talbot town centre shouting at everyone, but it does happen everywhere these days.
V E S S ,.... More to come...... you voted for it , enjoy.

P/S beginning to look like you lost .
My Grandparents could not afford a summer holiday so they would go and pick fruit and hops for 2 weeks in the summer to earn extra money and to have a sort of holiday (appartently the evening were fun and they were loads of families there doing the same).
NJ is correct that it is due to Brexit - but he is wrong about re-joining the EU, all will be well immediately.

Unfortunately it will take many years to undo the damage done to the UK economy if we were allowed to re-join the EU.
no we didn't lose, the vote says so. the fact remains you can't keep banging on about Brexit, its done and there is no going back.
Hymie, NJ was being sarcastic, not a nice trait in a Judge.... but nonetheless that was as i already pointed out very much tongue firmly embedded in cheek....
Shedman - is it not possible to deduct u/credit from people fit and able that refuse to do some sort of work??
Gully you’re like an LP that’s stuck !!!

Bakerwales - are you going to be first in the queue for a job picking fruit and veg in the fields? You seem very keen - or is it more a case of "do as I say and not as I do." As TTT would say PMSL
I don't think he can read, bobbi. He just listens to his mates.
10.40 ""crops will go to waste,EU Nationals have returned Home""
Any Idea why these E/U Nationals have returned home Emmie?
perhaps to get better wages, and those who haven't yet applied for EU status here.
Maggie when I was unemplyed after being made redundant I took any job going so that I not only could earn some money for the family but also working for a company means you are there if any vacancies arise then or in the future. These jobs included picking litter, cleaning council toilets and packing meat in a factory. Not everyone is a layabout!!
10.55 Nothing to do with Brexit of course Emmie.
Take those Blinkers off and get youself down to specsavers.
Don't know about that bakerwales, but would have thought there was something they could get them to do. Many years ago when I was in the RN the farmers would come to our camp to ask for people to help get in the hay and other stuff and in return we would get a small amount of money and plenty of cider free. As Mary hopkin would say Those were the days my friends.
B/S 10.48, What is an LP.?
A long-playing record.
