Apg, no expert here- but I does seem to provide some protection for those that have been vaccinated. Even though still able to pass it on to others.
Deaths should be reducing, and hospital admissions, for those vaccinated. But, those that haven't been, will still be at the same risk.
Bizarrely, for the whole of last year- I don't think I saw a single post or thread, complaining that Carers were still working. In fact, they were described as essential and keystaff. Nobody was too worried then and insisting on looking after their own. Now there is a vaccine, suddenly, everyone has a different idea.
Everyone is welcome to look after their own vulnerable relatives (vaccinated or not)- but most either cannot, or are just not suitable.
If you disagree with unvaccinated carers, and your relative does. Keep them at home, there is always a choice.
No job no jab. Workers who are selfish enough to refuse a vaccination that could help everyone as a whole country to get on top of this disease, has no place in the Healthcare Industry -and that goes for the idiot nurses who refuse as well. Just train up some more workers -it can't be that difficult to learn how to wipe someone's bottom and lift them correctly.
Is there a queue of folk wanting to work in care homes?
There would be if they stopped their benefits!
Nobody gets lifted, any more, apg. And haven't for years. Are you sure you know what you are talking about? And wiping bottoms.... haven't done that in years.
but pixie, you dont work in a care home!

"And wiping bottoms.... haven't done that in years. " - so how do bottoms get wiped?
Bednobs, I work in homecare. Little difference, except the place.
That's the one cliche people say- it's more about how they feel, the rest is literal and obvious, and the major part of the job.
If you are all totally willing to take over, fair enough.... but few people seem actually able and willing to do it full-time and effectively.
Good luck, to those who want to ....
Question Author
yes but we are all wondering how bottoms get wiped, very important!
It is! And a minority do need it. Unfortunately, that seems to be the default idea... which could well put potential staff off, while being such a tiny, if ever, part of the job.
Most, seem to have dementia, and need proper understanding, more than the obvious personal care. But, in any case, try changing someone's pad, who is uncooperative...
From the thread alone ttt, it does look like both you and apg, have actually never done it yourselves.

I'm just wondering how many bottoms are going un wiped! When I end up in one of these places I'd like to think the old April will get polished!
TTT, if we insist on carers having vaccinations, or being sacked, I suspect, pretty much all of them.
We are already short of staff and everybody wanting fully vaccinated carers, frankly, is going to end up having to do it themselves.
If you want your April wiped.... how many are you doing it for?
Normally I am all for people being able to choose but in this instance I think vaccination should be mandatory. If the ‘carers’ won’t be vaccinated they should be sacked and should not be able to claim benefits.
"With covid, that doesn't apply... it only benefits the person who has had it."
Wrong pixie. Simply wrong. Yes there the main benificiary but there also less likely to get it it, and have bad illness, and less likeley to infect other. Thats why the doctors want as many as possible to have the vaccinne

retort from AuntPG: "There would be if they stopped their benefits"

same for all that laborious, low paid agricultural crop harvesting, eh Aunt? ( clearly couldn't even contemplate a higher pay rate)

TTT: "because most do not die if they catch it after being vaccinated."

ah, the old 'uncalculable' statistical trick... where's 'the data' to back that claim up ?

Hey, if this works, and having got proper permissions... for those who think care work is wiping bottoms... this is a lovely gentleman with huntingtons, meeting my 4 month old grandson. While his movement had been very erratic, as soon as he saw and held the baby, he was so so careful and gentle. They properly communicated with each other :-))

so Pixie are you vaccinated then? I'd put a tenner on it you're not.

People used to queue up on street corners to pick potatoes years ago, when people were ashamed to be on benefits. Now full-grown healthy men don't want to work cos their partners have five kids and they get everything paid for if they don't work.

PS our farm does not grow crops, but our other business, building, struggles to get workers. The only ones that managed a full day without being on the phone all day or disappearing down the pub were Polish and Romanian and they have all gone home!
AuntPG: "People used to queue up on street corners to pick potatoes years ago, when people were ashamed to be on benefits."

And kids used to get forced up chimneys.

APG: "PS our farm does not grow crops, but our other business, building, struggles to get workers. The only ones that managed a full day without being on the phone all day or disappearing down the pub were Polish and Romanian and they have all gone home!"

And how much were you paying your Polish and Romanian workers, AuntPG ?
care shortage as they are offering £7 an hour and pubs are around £10.
