//I wonder what the main reason for the gas crisis is?//
The main reason for the gas crisis is that successive governments have abrogated their responsibility for the nation’s energy security. They have followed a strategy that now sees almost the sole source of gas to be under the control of a foreign power which has never, shall we be kind and say, looked favourably towards any western nation. The country’s entire gas supply and the source of around 40% of its electricity generation depend on how Vladimir Putin feels when he gets out of bed in the morning. Meantime we’re shipping in 150,000 tons of processed wood each and every week to be burnt in Europe’s third most polluting power plant in Yorkshire. To get an idea of how much that is, it is well over twice the weight of HMS Queen Elizabeth, the country’s new aircraft carrier, and that’s how much wood is being burnt each and every week.
At the same time, the country is sitting on decades worth of gas supplies which it has declined to exploit because of the eco-zealots and a few NIMBYs. Well those decisions are now bearing fruit. When we’re all sitting in the dark and cold and our “Green” credentials are top of the charts we’ll all be so proud. Mr Putin will be able to watch our plight on his telly because you can rest assured that his lights will not go out.
