////There better than no mask,//. That isn't the option though////

Maybe we'er at cross purposes. Of course medical grade masks that are changed regular are better than disposable masks or cotton ones but the public arent going to wear those unless there widely available and cheap and compulsory.
Overall scientists, doctors says masks if used properly are better than no mask in crowded spaces.
Steven Powys kept saying yesterday wear a face covering. He didnt say -"only a proper medical one as others are useless"
It's all getting rather fractious - I shall continue to use caution in situations where I think it is most needed.
By the way, nurses I see on TV wearing masks just have
bluey/green disposable ones like I wear, not great big heavy duty things
I'm sure he didn't, bobbin... but also, common sense tells us, that if a face covering can't prevent it...it doesn't matter if you are in a supermarket or a hospital. It's psychological. Keep away from crowds of strangers as much as possible.
Can't see anything fractious, mamya? Just conversation?
Bobbin, last year, my sister and I both volunteered for 6 months (until my daughter got covid from her work), in hospitals, looking after people with covid. I assure you, we were not allowed a face covering and we were also properly taught and shown why.
Of course a face covering cant prevent it but it reduces the risk especially when someone coughs or sneezes and more stays in than flies out. Doctors and scientists know this now. There universally wanting it because it helps not because its pyscholgically makes people feel safer/better. Give me a lift with 5 masked people or one with 5 unmasked people I know which I'd choose. Or maybe I'd walk up the stairs instead
//I assure you, we were not allowed a face covering and we were also properly taught and shown why.//
Interesting. Are you saying you had nothing covering your face? Or are you agreeing with what I said that they want you to wear the masks/PPE they provide which is what I said as its obvs safer than dirty/less adequate masks in such a critcal enviroment as a hospital or care home
Unless it becomes 'mandatory' again and I hope it doesn't, I won't be wearing a mask.
burly......I will put money on it that you will be wearing a mask before Christmas 2021.
Pixie are you saying you worked with covid patients in Hospital without wearing a mask?
Bobbin, we had to wear proper heavy PPE, which literally leaves marks on your face, because face coverings can't prevent you getting covid.
Obviously, your choice, if you would rather get in lift with 5 masked people. But in my line, people are tested regularly- and I would rather get in a lift with 5 unmasked negative people.
If you believe yours is protecting you, fine... just please, pretend you aren't wearing it and social distance instead.
No, apg... we had to wear proper masks, not a bit of fabric. They weren't enough.
What's so special about Christmas that it needs saving?

Apart from all the money spent of course.

Once again we enter the cycle of futility, doomed to repeat until the end of time or someone grows a pair.
Pixie, I think that mask and social distance is better than a simple either/or.
No, what complete and utter horse sheet.
Good. But that's never going to be available or feasible to everyone on buses, at work, in shops, school. It don't mean the alternative is wear nothing. Was stephen powys and public health lying or wrong when they recommend face coverings? Am really not sure what point your trying to make pixie .
Atheist.... social distancing is the answer, if you don't want it. The only thing that worries me, is that people might behave differently or feel "safer" by wearing a mask.
All I have to say really- to avoid it, keep away from other people.
Nothing good do with saving Christmas though. Its just common sense as winter comes, less outdoor time, busier shops, Christmas parties. Gromit used the term saving Christmas. Did savid javed say it to?
Sounds like they're going to put restrictions in place regardless. Another excuse for doctors not to see patients, I think this government is just going to use it as as excuse for everything. Covid is not going away and they surely can't keep threatening restrictions forever, or will it just be for every Christmas?
we agree on distancing being best pixie but sometimes its not possible like in lifts and on buses and even when i try to leave a gap its a bit like when leaving a gap on the motorway someone alwayys nips in or comes really close, so in shops etc for me a mask adds a bit extra protection for everyone. But yes theres a risk some feel that a mask means its safe to ignore social distancing
