I'm not using it for emotive effect. What we had previously was not house arrest. And it didn't work. To prevent the virus spreading people will have to be confined to their homes 24/7, imposed by force if necessary. That's house arrest. It's easier than saying "confined to their homes...etc". That's clearly undesirable and completely impractical, but it's the only thing that will come close to preventing the virus from spreading.

Wouldn't trouble me in the least. I meet friends regularly for drinks and eats. As far as I know none of them has been tested and I've no idea of their Covid status. I don't expect my friends to present a health certificate before joining me for a drink.

Grumpy why would you go shopping in Gloucester then I certainly would not go into Norwich yet. I wear a mask in the shops I have to go into but those are very few and far between. Just wish everyone else would take responsibility for their own actions. Was watching the shenanigans in Melbourne at midnight as they lifted lockdown - why were they all allowed to mix freely and risk spreading the virus after such a long lockdown?

We are becoming the laughing stock of Europe. They think the cavalier attitude that some people in the UK have of ,'no-one tells me what to do' etc.with regard to Covid rules and regulations is wrong.
Vaccines are the first line of defence but shouldn't we be keeping masks and social distancing for some time yet.
Rates are rising rapidly and before long we'll probably be back in a lockdown situation. Just in time for Christmas.
We need the Government to adopt a much firmer stance on this situation. They are once again sending out mixed messages and leaving it to 'common sense'.
Remember what was said after the previous lockdowns---'why didn't the Government do something much earlier'. We will probably be saying the same in a year's time.

Went for several reasons but didn’t have any close contact with anyone.I am just amazed how many have decided to disregard sensible advice.Went for my flu jab this A M and everyone going into the doctors was wearing their’s even outside.Also waiting for confirmation of a date for Covid booster.

But, in England at least, there are virtually no Covid "rules and regulations." So how can anyone adopt a cavalier attitude towards something which does not exist?

Get back to normal and start living with it. That was the advice of the Health Secretary when he took office recently.

Quite clearly, lots of people don't want to do that. People were prepared to accept the advice when lockdown was implemented, so why is the recent advice not acceptable?

If people want to wear a mask, then wear a mask. If you don't want to wear one, don't wear one.

It seems to me that lots of people have perceived lockdown as normal and don't want to come out of it.

Yes, vaccinated are now the majority but thats not totally suprising since it means unvaccinated account for around 5-10% of the population but 35% of admissions, but it shows the vaccinated (and refusers) need to avoid complacency and still follow guidance

Well it depends on your definitions but if you get on a tube train or bus where masks are still compulsory as they keep warning you on the tube you'll find the vast majority dont bother
