Rainbow Crossing To Celebrate Transgender Awareness Week

Everyone recognises a Zebra crossing as a safe place to cross the road, but Camden Council has decided to celebrate Transgender Awareness Week by painting this one in bright colours. If I came across it I would assume it's a bit of artwork so I wonder what would happen if a driver didn't recognise it as an official crossing and ran someone over?

Whoever came up with this potty - and dangerous - idea needs their bumps felt.

Ok. It's quite obvious that it's a crossing and not a work of art though
When they first appeared I thought...how lovely...they look cheery and they'll give folk a smile....apparently not everybody....... :-)
I first noticed our ones in the middle of a dreary lockdown winter day. I wasn't around to enjoy the 1960s so thought they were a bit psychadelic and in keeping with the music history of the area. They are quite cheering.
I wonder how much it cost to pay the council workmen to paint them? Money that could no doubt have been better spent mending potholes or cleaning streets.
"This scheme follows on from the success of the four Rainbow crossings laid in Camden High Street in 2020 to mark Pride Month. It also recently worked with the Mayor of London to install 11 colourful crossings on Tottenham Court Road as part of the Bring London Together’ project." So that explains it.
It is a signalised crossing - the sort that doesn't usually have road markings. This has got to be safer in conjunction with the signals.
good question ! at least important as climate change

in the same- what on EARTH will happen if....?
You know the red pillar boxes for post? first find one still opern and operative. The gold medal winners had their post boxes painted golden

but wait.....

if I post a letter in the golden box - - will it arrive at all or just be thrown away as the others usually are?
will it be painted and or edged in gold ? what happens if it is a death condolence card? does it mean he ( oops or she) will go to heaven ?

yeah and Rochdale Rd has a hecagonal box - does that mean some little old lady is employed to cut the corners off all the letters and magazines so they come out six sided ( or er hexagonal)

I am gonna have to lie down.....

no - it isnt
especially to arteests and others of a haute not cuisine - culture
and artistic nature such as the esteemed OP

imagine - hands on wheel and explaining how the counterpoint of Back far outweighs the heavy handedness of later Mahler
and splat !
little old lady splatters against the screen with her pram ( stuffed with old newspapers and not all her grandchildren)
and the explanation is - she was in an off yellow outfit ( coo-tar perhaps ) and was in the yellow bit of the crossing - so she cdnt be seen

sozza rambling
PP makes a valid point.

it would be interesting to see their HAZID/Risk Assessment for this.

oh, wait........
they're all along Piccadilly (which is Westminster, not Camden). I don't know the cause; but traffic lights are still functioning, and a driver who's admiring pretty road surfaces rather than watching the lights shouldn't be on the road anyway.
I’m a bit disappointed. I thought they’d be proper rainbow coloured.
Seven bands of colour?? That would surely tip some over the edge ;-)
I wonder if they will have an " Indigenous Caucasian Awareness Week "
Samuraisan
definitely something we need< we've been literally obliterated from tv adverts
Set them up then.
Visit us, Rocky. We now have many rainbow coloured ones. Research is showing that they are noticed from much further away than traditional crossings.... :-)

Well that's one road I wont be crossing any time soon

Can you give examples of tv ads with no white folk in them?
It seems to be a lot of fuss over nothing. The traffic lights are all important in this case.
It looks like a Neopolitan Ice Cream. All it needs now is a couple of flakes. Do not eat the cones.
