...This would fix it in short order but I can't see the French agreeing, too much like common sense.

France seem shortsighted on Al this to me. Surely they see the channel is a magnet that draws many thousands to Calais turning it in to a big dump and causing travelers across France. Stop the dinghies, clear the sites in calaise and in time the message will get through. TTT is right. Boris is right but hid delivery is rubbish. To be fair tho am sure his team has...

Theres probly spam factories in some countrys where people are paid a few pence for every link. Theres probly a list of sites for them to try and AB will be on there together with instructions on how to post. Am not convinced theres not some BOTS thou
The French don't want them - true
The French are cross about Brexit - true
In those circumstances what Johnson is doing is pouring oil on troubled waters.
It wouldn’t matter what he does. The French are being French.
Our (gov's) mistake was to allow 10s of thousands in. If we'd sunk the boats of the first few waves & returned the occupants to France they would have soon given up. It's not too late.
more like petrol on the fire, ichkeria, oil is supposed to calm troubled waters.

APG: "I presume you think Boris was being logical and sensible then? It's pointless saying the sentiment behind the letter was sound, because the very fact he's Tweeted the letter means the UK are probably not going to be allowed into the Migrant talks on Sunday. " - I agree the idea was sound and logical and would fix the issue. The delivery of that was silly but that does not mean the idea is. If the French could stop having a tantrum they'd see it fixes the issue for them and us.
what issue do the French have?
I am assuming that those who wish to come here illegally, are illegally in France. Were we to return them to France without agreement from the French, would we not be guilty of people smuggling?

"what issue do the French have? " - err are you for real? They have thousands of migrants living in squalor at various places on their north coast. They want to get to the UK, France would love them to not be there. If they got sent back to France every time they'd stop going over the channel and then they'd see it was pointless even going to Northern France. QED, no one crossing, no one waiting to cross, no money for the people traffickers. Problems sorted for us both. Simples

ken "Were we to return them to France without agreement from the French, would we not be guilty of people smuggling? " - which is why we are seeking French agreement.
//Were we to return them to France without agreement from the French, would we not be guilty of people smuggling//
If the idea is just to not let them go into out waters and certainley not land here, where they choose to sail back to is an issue for them and for France if they choose to go back there.
The point is that Johnson is making a sensible idea less likely to come about.
Maybe Macron would not cooperate anyway but he certainly isn’t going to that way. He’s been like that e de since he’s been in office. It’s not how serious works leaders behave and to be honest he makes one embarrassed to be British
The idea is a nonstarter without cooperation from France.
Fairly obviously
"Which is why we're seeking French agreement." Via Twitter:-/

yes ken that was wrong as I have said about a dozen times. The idea is good though and if the French can start focusing on the payload rather than the delivery mechanism they might see that it helps us both.
Twice, not a dozen. Just saying.

it just illustrates why most of the world is thick as pig ***, they are more interested in how the idea was delivered than the idea.
Tora- //it just illustrates why most of the world is thick as pig ***, they are more interested in how the idea was delivered than the idea.//

I'll remind you of this post next time you go into one about Greta Thunberg. ;-)
Why on earth did Boris not wait until Sunday's meeting to bounce out his idea?.....

Are you surprised Macron is annoyed because what should have been a private correspondence between two country leaders, or better still a phone call, was Tweeted for all to see?

Well, we know truly have our own Trump -hopefully he will get banned from Twitter shortly before he embarrasses the UK any further.
AuntPG, it's a ruse from macron, he does not want them back, makes no difference if that tweet never happened, he would still have said no1. macron did not like brexit 2. election coming up 3. he does not want them in france as they cause no amount of trouble and expense for them, the french people do not want them either, and at that they will never agree while he is in power and probably whoever wins either, and as for eu solidarity and its laws, france does what it wants and ignores the laws, remember its really germany and france who runs the eu, the rest is a curtain and the above are behind that curtain, and im delighted we are out of it, for all the above reasons.
