Okay, Atheist...
//Why are some people so obsessed with gender? Does it really impact on your life, apart from scaring you about your own identity//
It does not impact upon my life, nor am I obsessed with gender (au contraire, I am comfortable in my own gender) and I'm certainly not scared about my own identity.
I am a woman. I was born a woman. I continue to be a woman, anatomically, physically, emotionally, biologically... I will never attempt to be something I am not in order to be "relevant" in this day and age. It's time this pathetic nonsense stopped.

Estimates vary, depending partly on what counts as "intersex" and what doesn't. But a common lower bound I've seen is around 0.02%, or close to 1 in 5,000, ie 1,000 times more numerous than LadyCG's figure. Since this itself is probably too low, perhaps even by an order of magnitude, I can only assume that LadyCG's statistic is based on a far narrower definition than usual.

Are you suggesting that because you are happy in your birth gender, everyone else must be too? Are you medically (or ever psychologically) trained in order to be sure gender identity is "pathetic nonsense"? If you are, I'd be interested to find out a professional reason for your opinion, as I do not know much about other folks issues in such areas.
