“ In a statement, Harry insisted he would cover the cost of police protection rather than burden the taxpayer ”
So, it’s not opposing reporting.
If he’s happy to cover the full cost himself then I don’t see the problem or need for all the furore.
I understand from months ago that his own US security guards would not be allowed to be armed on UK soil.

My understanding is that he pays for his own security, however he and his family is not entitled to police protection whilst in this country. He would like that for his family so he wants to fund what it would cost so he is not a burden on the taxpayer.
He may have walked away from the RF, but he ccan't change history - he WAS born into the british RF and remains the queens grandson (and later either the monarch's son or brother) and is therefore a target to nutters, more so than, say, me. To me it sounds like him being allowed police protection while he is here, while making it cost neutral to the country sounds like the ideal solution

//If it turns into a combined UK and US style security effort then so be it//
Eh?
1) I am pretty sure the Americans wouldn't want to share everything and 2) neither would we and if we didnt share then it would be pointless.
And as a third point just how would the cost be worked out and then paid?
It's a none starter and Ginge knows it.
