The woman is a complete lunatic and I feel for NZ citizens. Part of her latest strategy to further her obsession with "eliminating" the virus involves a self-isolation period of up to 24 days (yes, three and a half weeks) for some people:
It’s heard not to see this as the same sort of political posturing that caused the Australian government to turn on Novak Djokovic.
But for countries like Australia and NZ, Covid is still a comparative stranger and so viewed somewhat differently even to here. They aren’t yet at the stage of learning to live with it and you wonder if they’ve merely postponed the inevitable. Maybe maybe not
NZ was praised early on for being virtually covid free which they achieved by closing their borders. It was obvious that this would only delay the inevitable. The virus wasn't going anywhere, so as soon as it did get in, they'd be in the same state as the rest of us.
tomus, yes but anyone with an ounce of sense could see that it was not going to stay like that. We had to let it sweep through in the end. Fortunately the vaccine was developed in time to cut the damage. Omicron has actually helped enormously.

Not so much of a stranger to Australia now. They've reported over 1.8m new cases since 1st January. That's getting on for twice as many per million population than the UK.
I take back what I said about “posturing” perhaps: as far as Johnson and co goes, I am fairly sure they’d have done the same - pretty hard not to cancel your wedding without everyone noticing.
It’s the other stuff :-)
