// Former President Donald Trump on Tuesday praised Russian President Vladimir Putin's decision to send Russian troops into Ukraine to support Russian-backed separatists in the Luhansk and Donetsk provinces. In an appearance on the right-wing talk radio program "the Clay Travis and Buck Sexton Show," Trump broke his conspicuous silence on the crisis to applaud the Russian dictator.
"This is genius," he said of Putin's decision on Monday to officially recognize the breakaway provinces and authorize the use of Russian military personnel to assist them. "So Putin is now saying it’s independent — a large section of Ukraine. I said, how smart is that? And he’s gonna go in and be a peacekeeper. That’s the strongest peace force I’ve ever seen. There were more army tanks than I’ve ever seen. They’re gonna keep peace, all right." //

12 former USSR countries are now in NATO and Putin would not dare to attack a NATO country. With hindsight, not fast tracking Ukraine into NATO was our error, but Ukraine itself was confused on the issue.
We also did too little after Russia annexed Crimea in 2014. They got away with it then, and that encouraged them to attack Ukraine itself.
Trump was a big Putin fanboy (and still is) and did not mention Crimea in their frequent calls and meetings. Trump tried to unfund NATO, lobbied to readmit Russia into the G8, and heaped praise where ever he could on Putin. The tinpot dictator must have been been kicking himself he didn’t take the whole country in 2014.

Meanwhile cashpoints dead in Kyiv, the shops empty and tanks approaching.
I think I heard possibly the stupidest question I’ve ever heard anyone asked in live TV earlier, to Vladimir Klitschko (brother of Kyiv’s mayor) on Al Jazeera.
“The Ukrainian President has offered to hand weapons to ordinary people. Won’t that be a bit dangerous?”
He was well out of punching range of course.

Just theory, but still quite chilling.

What's telling to me is the fact that CNN are broadcasting broadly freely from near Belgorod on the Russian side of the border (although I think they have not been allowed to film everything.
But there are no Russian reporters anywhere near.
Russians are being told a different story of what exaxtly is happening.
The fact that Putin has control of the mainstream media allows him to do things which he might otherwise be uneasy about the Russian people knowing about.
