They Think It's All Over . . . . .
. . . . but obviously it's not. The consequences of complacency.

Errr - so what!
With the vaccinations, with the diminishing consequences of those who catch it, with the fact that so many have had it now herd immunity kicks in, at worst it’s now an inconvenience.
Some people will die. Some people die from flu every year.
I had it a few months ago and got a bit of a headache; my 13 year old son caught it from me and had nothing (he came bounding down the stairs one Sunday in his rugby kit when still infected and I had to explain to him why he couldn’t go).
To all intents and purposes Covid is over.
Somebody last week posted about an healthy 8 year old dying as proof it’s still a massive threat - they we’re wrong; as tragic as it was, it doesn’t prove we’re still in the midst of a pandemic. It only made the press because it was so exceptional.
The thing that astonishes me is why people are still testing - pack it in for gawd’s sake.

Context please jno.
Without context it’s meaningless (Gromit was awful for posting stats without context).
114.
How many were on their way out anyway and died with Covid?
How many were vulnerable?
What were the ages of those that died?
And the killer question, how many fit young people were in that 114.
If you don’t provide context, all you’re doing is wasting keystrokes (although let’s face it, it won’t be the first time you’ve wasted keystrokes).

This new and exciting "demicron" vary ant was first tried as a scare tactic in early November 2021. It is taking its time it seems. Back then it was reported ...
//All mention of this 'new strain' comes from a misinterpreted comment by Dr Shashank Joshi, a member of Maharashtra's task force on Covid-19. Dr Joshi is reported to have said: "Delmicron, the twin spikes of Delta and Omicron, in Europe and US has led to a mini tsunami of cases." He was commenting on a situation where both strains are existing and spreading infection, not of the discovery of a new variant.
The latest research shows that while the 'P681R' mutation that's behind the spread of the Delta, has combined with the 'N501Y' mutation that is present in Omicron, Alpha, Beta and Gamma this combination does not spread.// oops everybody back on the bus.

The Covid pandemic is over, but the virus is still widely present in the population. It is now endemic and the SARS-CoV2 virus in all its variations will be around for years, if not decades to come. The entire population will be exposed to it, most of us multiple times, in our lifetimes in the same way as we are exposed to all manner of endemic airborne viruses. Trying to avoid it or prevent its spread is futile; testing yourself for it when you are not unwell is entirely pointless. In fact, testing yourself when you have symptoms is about as sensible as testing yourself for ‘flu. Thankfully the government has finally recognised this and the removal of all restrictions and the end of widespread free testing is the only sensible way to proceed. The NHS will have to get used to this and deal with it in the same way as they deal with other patients with respiratory illness. After all, that’s what it’s there for.
//for the 114 who died yesterday, it's certainly all over. Can't expect Deskdiary and his son to show too much empathy for them, I suppose.//
Understanding the above obvious facts and having empathy for the relatives of the victims are not mutually exclusive. However, very few people are now dying directly and solely as a result of Covid. Many people suffering from other underlying illnesses, especially older people, die from viral or bacterial respiratory infections such as ‘flu and pneumonia. Quoting the number of people who have died “from Covid” is no longer helpful and has never been particularly accurate. About 1,500-odd other people would have died yesterday. Each of the three most common causes of death would have claimed three times as many victims as the figure who died yesterday with Covid on their death certificates. Far better to empathise with some of them because there is no doubt that many of them would have died as a result of being undiagnosed and/or untreated whilst the National Health Service was rebranded as the National Covid Service.

there is actually - doubt
Judges and stats just DON'T mix
BUT there has been progress: NJ agrees that there HAS been a covid outbreak and not just a little flu--ey stuff dressed up as plague or smallpox
Karol sikora has been on the box concerning Babies Who DDDIIIIIEEEE from cancer because. Because what? Because.
3 1/2 babies he estimates and that is in the face of 186 000 covid deaths. peanuts - but still tragic ( and a real pisser if you are the baby)
the effect of covid on ITU admission is now - - - nil
the epidemic is over
