Varying reports but I've seen numbers from 4000 to 70,000 quoted. However many, this has a familiar ring to it. Shades of 1930s Germany - and the world watches - again.

A few years ago a western reporter, it may have been from CBC, was granted rare access to Donetsk. The report made interesting reading, but it didn't really explain how most people made a living there.
No males under 30 were allowed to leave, and I suspect no one else had anywhere else to go as anyone with relatives in Russia or free Ukraine had long since fled.

Just seems odd that if tens of thousand of people were herded on to buses and transported to Russia against their will, then no journalist, war photographer or Ukraine citizen with a smartphone took a picture of it.

Because even if the Russians don’t want photos to be taken, the place is full of western journalists and photographers. Everyone has a smartphone with a camera so some photos would have been taken.
There is the photo of people orderly queuing for the bus covered in Z symbols taken by a Reuters photographer in Mariupol.

The BBC investigation into the shooting of Russian prisoners establishes the exact place and time it was taken. The farm had been recaptured by Ukraine forces the previous day. Linguists say the people doing the shooting had Ukrainian accents. So in all probability it is not fake.

The lack of any photographic material of forced deportations means it is impossible for anyone to say conclusively it is truth or fake.

Yes I have read the link and as you say yourself, it is not conclusive.

It isn't only Mariupol either.
Most of the alleged abductions have occurred in villages around Kharkiv and from the Donetsk so-called "People's" republic.

Mr Orlov's specific allegations about Mariupol are not verified either but as I said before, he is the mayor and I suspect he has enough to contend with without making stuff up

An increasingly desperate Kremlin is reportedly sending mercenaries from the Wagner group to E Ukraine.
To be honest these people have been pretty hopeless so far.
And as for the pro-Assad Syrians, desperate for money, I can’t see that working either. And Lukashenko probably darent send his own troops over the border for fear they’ll desert.
The question would be what would happen to Putin if he’s seen to fail at home?

sounds a bit like Manchester police or - even AB hem hem - no not forced deportations, but some crime report
whenever YOU say it - it is "oh no - not interested no evidence"
and then when a neighbour says it - they tear around and ask you to disprove the allegation...." as it is very serious indeed"

France Inter reported three plane loads of wagner lovers took off from Mali ( ouagadougou I think - poss bamako) on the night of the invasion Feb 25th or whenever and flew to Ukraine

Big thing today is capturing the russian ( leddy) sniper - rather arrissed off that she was left on the battlefield by her side, wounded ( but not dead) - big thing out there, see Enemy at the Gates....
