Hopefully the drubbing they received yesterday spurs them into action.

Net zero, hundreds crossing the Channel daily, rising inflation, highest taxes for yonks rising interest rates and unaffordable fuel is what the voters want.

Johnson could still sort this and go on to win the next election but it must be actions not just hollow words and soundbites. Net zero must go, for the UK that is a big contributor to many if what I have highlighted, but can the Prime Minister stand up to his wife?

Interesting times to come maybe?

don't want surely......
// Net zero, hundreds crossing the Channel daily, rising inflation, highest taxes for yonks rising interest rates and unaffordable fuel is what the voters want. //

I think you have missed a *not* out of that ;-)
todays drubbing is a big wake up call, let's hope he is listening.
as i pointed out gromit....
the BBC is reporting that other than the 3 London councils and Southampton, the damage is very modest - all a bit of a damp squib overall and not that good for Labour, so that will have one AB socialist sobbing in his Durham beer-gate mug - Liberals and the Greens have made some gains.

Yes, clearly I didnt write *what voters want sorted out.

Now, any comments apart from my error?
i think that they will go on and win the next election but maybe not with Boris in charge, unless he has a massive change of heart over many issues.

Yes, unfortunately labour are in a right 2/8. If they weren't then maybe the Tories would be more competent.

And just because Labour are beyond useless shouldn't mean the Tories only have to just up the bar a little bit, raise it properly and show them how it is done.
I reckon Johnson will be ousted before the general election.
Hopefully then a better cabinet can then be appointed. Johnson is very mediocre and has surrounded himself with mediocre toadies. Loyalty to Boris wins out above talent. A good clear out of those nonentities is urgently needed.
In the minds of the Tories they have not lost.
Just a tiny hiccup according to tory MPs on the news.
Only it ain't a hiccup it's a big Belch and his name is Boris.
Gulliver, not just in the mind of the Tories.

oh joy to the pinko wets
caloo kallay ! ( That is Lewis carrol)
the tories ( as TTT wd say - the good guys) are celebrating a lack of a wipe-out and are looking for a fifth term

juat saying
yeah goolie - the facts do not really support your assertion
( bit like Putin - we have conquered Mariupol..... bang bang)
At the moment it can hardly be described as a drubbing.

The Tories have lost 6 councils and Labour have gained 4.

As the results continue to come in I suspect it will get a bit worse, but for a mid-term slap in the face, it's not that bad really.

Mind you, I don't have a dog in the fight because (a) I never vote in local elections because I genuinely believe it matters not a jot the colour of the council, they're all inefficient/incompetent and (b) where I live they could put a blue rosette on a piece of cheese and it would win.
nothing to learn, nothing new happened.
- The government got a slap mid term, nooooo!
- More Labour councils = more poor people paying more for worse service, turkeys do vote for Christmas.
- Labour still would not win a general Election.
I could have told you all those last week.
I'm waiting for the result from the Tower Hamlets mayor election. pundits were predicting the return of Lutfur Rahman.......
The country is just emerging from a global pandemic and having been a world leader in the race for vaccines and rollouts, and having propped up businesses and those who couldn't work quite admirably, the government is now dealing with the expected result. Furthermore, Ukraine is under attack and the stability of Europe is threatened by a madman, France is taking the pee, and plans are therefore afoot to deal differently with arriving illegals, and any government in this day and age is going to champion the quest to defeat global warming so you’re whistling in the wind if you want that to stop. Apart from borrowing Jeremy Corbyn's wonky magic wand that he took with him when he was so unceremoniously booted out, and giving that a wave, I really don’t know what you expect. With the left finding anything and everything to criticise the government for and putting the boot in at every opportunity, surely if anyone needs to learn lessons it's the abysmal offering that is Labour. I imagine they're very disappointed indeed this morning. And they had such high hopes too - which demonstrates just how pathetically ineffectual and out of touch they really are. Ah well ... that’s that done. Onwards.
Naomi, 09:05, bang on!

//nothing to learn, nothing new happened.//

And that is what will loose the Tories the election.

Lots on about Johnson going, but what if Sir Kier goes and another young Blair steps forward?

Question Author
Naomi, whilst I dont disagree with what you have said I think you are missing the mood of middle England. Yes there have been challenges but they are compounded by Johnsons Green agenda amongst other things. People are now angry and it will get worse as money tightens.

Name one think in my list above that you don't consider is what the voters want.
